He won just after Trump had completely mismanaged the pandemic, and by a depressingly narrow margin. Obama was more progressive than Biden, promised* change, and did waaaaay better then him, Hillary o Harris

Obama won after Bush had a very public economic meltdown. It's beginning to look like that's the one issue people really vote on: whether they *feel like* they can buy things or not.
Yeah, I agree. My point was that the fact that biden won in 2020 is not evidence of a good campaigning strategy. I would still argue that the democratic party's shift to the right isn't doing them any favors.
Biden's main campaign strategy in 2020 was to not be Trump. And to be so benign that none of Trumpworld's crazy talking points about him would stick. Biden's a secret Marxist Leninist globalist who consorts with the Devil? Seems legit.
I find it hard to be convinced by a lot of takes about 2024. So many people are presenting the take they had before the election, and saying the election proves they're right. IMO there is a lot we still don't understand about, for instance, who actually heard Dem messaging.
If the reach of Dem messaging was limited due to, for instance, the waning influence of legacy media, then it's hard to judge if it was effective or not. What I saw seemed better than average, but I'm in a very different ecosystem.
Meanwhile, I didn't see the attack ads on Harris because I don't watch sports on TV. But a bunch of people just seem to have had zero clue about anything related to the election. Totally checked out of news. So how do you break through to them? I think we first need to understand the ecosystem.
There is too much to unpack here, so I won't. I just don't want to spend hours on this, sorry. But I really don't think that cozying up to the Cheneys was pragmatic, by any stretch of the definition.
I understand the play, even if I don't agree with it. It was for the Nikki Haley voter, but clearly it didn't work. Far too much time spent on that, for sure.
(I haven't been arguing it was pragmatic at any point, btw)
(I know you didn't, but that was my point before you joined the thread)
"Biden win in 2020 so this is wrong" my foot
