No fun on the Sabbath Ed. Wright and Buttress and others in a consortium. (In the event of a reduction). They get the chance to do access the much larger
Sorry. Access the larger Cardiff market and eventually dispose of RP, or use in some future development/ redevelopment
So discontinue pro rugby in Newport, sell off RP and takeover Cardiff? Isn't Buttress all about the Gwent rugby? That would go against everything that he has preached and would go down like a fart in a spacesuit.
If WRU go to two as widely predicted, pro rugby in Gwent is doomed. I expect a few games at RP in the short term (possibly St Helens too) and if CAP ever gets redeveloped then the Cardiff Dragons can play at RP for a season or two.
I wonder if the Reddin plan is 2 mens regions and 2 women's regions. East and West East Men play initially out of CAP and RP, then RP while the CAP site and the MilStad is redeveloped before moving to Nu-CAP East Women to play out of RP West will be some combination of St Helens and PyS.
St Helens to be pushed as home of the West Women's team, maybe play the age grade internationals there as well?
I think those are all reasonable assumptions. RP doesn't need to be sold off/ turned into houses Buttress et al, having acquired it for £1, can monetise it with the football team & the other things you mention Probably not profitable, but maybe enough to wash its face while they retain the asset.
Renting to Newport County would cover the running costs? The question is selling this to Dragons fans. There's also the current CAP lease that runs till 2028. The lease iirc has the clause that the team that calls CAP home has to have Cardiff in the name. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-...
Cardiff Dragons would satisfy that No merger/ culling will be able to be sold to the "losing" side This is gambling everything on success I think there's a good chance that 2 sides that could go toe to toe w/ decent Irish, English & French opposition could be built into 10-12k attendances.
I don't think 2 sides will happen. Tierney has shown that she doesn't have the stomach to make tough decisions and with Scarlets and Ospreys both fighting tooth and nail and bringing compelling new reasons to retain independence (HOL investment / St Helens regen), the WRU will fold (again).
I have a hunch it'll be 2+2. With different funding from and relationships with the WRU.
I honestly think that would be the best outcome. 2+2 and out of the URC. If 2 teams in the English league is still on the table, then that, with 2 semi-pro outfits acting as development / feeder teams down in the 2nd or 3rd tier, with the chance of promotion for them, further down the line.
If the WRU could pull off 2 in the Premiership and 2 in the Championship that's probably the best case scenario?
Being one of the +2 is just accelerating your demise. 4 teams already equals poverty status and aiming for mid table. Assuming the pie is the same size, what is the point of accepting a smaller slice?
The +2 couldn't play top flight rugby. They would have to be in a semi-pro comp
Well that’s the same as closing down really. I suppose it would be ok for a small time club at a small ground, but not for us.
If the +2 were in the English Championship with a chance of promotion, that could work. Let's say the +2 were Os & Dragons with 50% of their current 1st team budget - they could be competitive in the English 2nd tier and could both potentially return to the top flight, eventually.
The WRU will probably walk into the room and say that they're prepared to fight it down to 2 regions and outline perhaps something like the above. If they've already got Wright and Buttress on board then they're halfway there.
Then say to the Western teams "if you've a better idea let's hear it" The Ospreys and Scarlets if they're going to survive need to work together as they're on the clock.
Fighting like cats in a bag only plays into the WRUs hands.
I think fighting is clearly the order of the day, given the Crys letter was likely approved or even requested by the Scarlets' board I assume the new overlords were in on the conversation I guess Short may think he has the infrastructure and now the money to finally win his battle with Rob D
