The "Greatest Generation" would likely view current times with disappointment over political division, selfishness, and a decline in personal responsibility and unity, contrasting with their own era's shared purpose during the Great Depression and World War II. They would be horrified at the greed.
Members of the Greatest Generation, particularly those from the Depression and World War II era, would likely note a missing sense of accountability and self-reliance. They wouldn't be afraid to fight the fascist dictator trump with everything they had. They would defend democracy.
It may be my own grief at the passing of their (my parents) generation when I say they'd be heartbroken at the disregard for the sacrifice of themselves, as well as others, ie Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf. And, i do believe they'd be highly discouraged at the preponderance of greed and selfishness.
My grandfather was Army My father was Airforce Husband was a Marine. I know that they would be shocked and appalled at what is happening now. The fact that there is so much hate, racism and greed would anger them. They served this country with honor. Trump dishonors them. He dishonors himself.
How America continues to produce military families is becoming nothing short of miraculous. If it can continue. With the horrid treatment of Black and Brown people, those military enlistment goals may well be getting farther away.
I am hoping some of the personnel will say no to the illegal orders, but not so far.
They will need leaders to refuse orders. Once lead, others will follow.
My dad enlisted in the (old) Army Air Corps in 1941 & went away to war until 1946. He flew on 22 combat missions over Nazi occupied Europe. My mom flew with the Civil Air Patrol sub spotting off the New England coast. Her brother was in the AAC (trained with my dad) and her sister was in the WAC.
The pig headed Maga bullshit -- its incredibly narrow, self centered identity and view of the world -- is one thing. The Trumpian greed and selfishness and contempt for service or consideration is just despicable.
With good reason.
And my parents would be stunned and speechless.
