Reducing police funds and de-militarizing them is part of the objective, moving those excess funds to actual services to help the poor and homeless would do loads better to stop crime from even happening in the first place. It’s common sense.

Now that's a fine discussion to have — much better than "defund the police." BTW, I agree with that. Law enforcement must be reformed from the top down and bottom up. It must be demilitarized and de-bullied.
“Reduce funding of the police” doesn’t roll off the tongue as well. Either way, defund the police is basically what you said. Complete reform and moving excess funds to other programs. People just refuse to read details and take slogans too literally. A bit ironic that you actually support it.
Here's a marketing tip: any slogan you have to explain is a terrible fucking slogan. It should have been "reform the police" not "defund the police." The latter allowed the GOP to hammer the dems in every district and claim they're pro-crime.
GOP would have done that regardless because reform includes cutting funding. The root of the problem is that Dems continue to slide right instead of left on policy. Republicans simply will not vote for Dems, but some reason they continue to believe republicans are rational.
They may have, but we gave it to them on a silver platter. That was epically stupid.
I find it especially stupid to try and compete with the evil that is the GOP by making slightly less evil policies to try and get some republican voters. They’re afraid of bad publicity, but the loudest Americans are the dumbest and we know who they voted for.
The only priority is winning at this point. It's the only way to stop MAGA. The house is on fire, and we're arguing about how to decorate the spare room. We need to put out the fire first.
Good start would be good policies and a united front. Can’t have that with current leadership. I’m seeing it from more progressive dems though. AOC and Bernie doing rallies and telling people what’s happening is better than Schumer doing a book tour and voting on Trumps candidates.
