Captain Atom is in mid air surrounded by a thick cloud. He thinks, “uh oh! Calling this a MAJOR SETBACK may be an understatement.“

Green Arrow serves the rest of the JLA his infamous chili. Their reactions. Green Arrow (with huge smile on his face): Who want seconds? Aquaman: Water! Give me water! Black Canary: Milk will cool your taste buds faster. Superman says nothing but uses his breath to cool the chili. Martian Manhunter: Fire! It tastes like fire! Moons of Mars! Flash: Thanks, Ollie. Now I have something to use against Captain Cold. Green Lantern (Hal Jordan): I don't have the will power to eat this! Batman ( surprisingly unbothered): Hmmm. It could use more crackers.

I don't have time to do it now, but I will give my personal recipe for chili in this thread. It's based on a recipe published by Chowhound that has vanished.

Turn off the heat and enjoy the suprisingly non-Olliness of the chili. Put the remainder in plastic containers and your freezer or fridge for storage. There should be NO black stuff to scrub away. (14)

Or you can stay and watch one of the LOTR films. Or Kenneth Branagh's "Hamlet." Feel free to occasionally stir, but there's no reason to turn up the heat. If you see steam coming up from the chili that's a good sign that it's done. It's DEFINITELY done if it starts to boil. (13)

Now for the hard part---waiting. By now, you should see some evidence that the stuff in the soup pot really is cooking, but it will still take about four to six hours. Feel free to leave apartment if you have nothing flammable near the soup pot burner. (12)

Now take the second bag of chopped onions and peppers and put them on the saucepan. Turn burner to 2. In thirty minutes or so when it's cooked. Transfer onions and peppers to big soup pot. Wash out saucepan and put in dishwasher. Turn off that burner for good. (11)

Turn off that burner again and transfer the cooked meat with a slotted spoon to big soup pot. Wash out deep dish frying pan and return to burner. (10)

When you don't see any pink left, add several tablespoons of minced garlic. Splash on some Worcester sauce. Also add some black pepper. Then wait about 20 minutes or so for this to cook. (9)

Now put the four to six pounds of ground beef in the deep-dish frying pan. Turn burner on to 2 again. I *think* it will take about twenty to thirty minutes for this to cook, but don't even THINK about doing anything until the meat is all browned. (8)

In about thirty or sixty minutes or so, it should be cooked. You'll know when it is. Turn off the burner and transfer the stuff using a slotted spoon to the soup pot. Wash out the deep-dish frying pan and put it back on the stove. Turn off that burner. (Burner with soup pot stays on.) (7)

On another burner, take out one of those bags of chopped onions and peppers and put them in a deep dish frying pan or saucepan. Again, turn the setting to 2. Now go back to bed or watch TV. (6)

Turn on the burner to LOW. If your dial has settings that go to 10 at the highest, then turn it to 2. There should be NO reason to set this higher. (I told you this was a slow cooker recipe. I meant it.) (5)

OK, it's early morning on Saturday or Sunday and it's time to get this recipe started. Know all those cans I mentioned? Open all of them, and pour them into a 12 quart sized soup pot. Add 1/4 cup of chili powder, and a couple of tablespoons of cumin powder. (4)

Prep work: Chop onions and cut bell peppers in thick slices. Put onions and peppers into two plastic freezer bags and put them in freezer. Take them out of freezer the day before you plan to cook and put them in refigerator. (If you don't, it will just take a little longer to cook.) (3)

This is a slow-cooker recipe so you should do it on your day off. Why slow-cook? Because slow cook means you don't have to clean scoured pans. You will also have lots of leftover chili to put away in your freezer. I suspect Ollie LOVES scorched pans and hates freezing chili. (f)

I am not a snob who says you should never buy a container of pre-chopped onions from your local supermarket. Buying the onions yourself and chopping them though is CHEAPER. I chop the peppers myself because I only see "fajita slices" available and I prefer thicker slices. (e)

The recipe mentions that cans of diced tomates with chili peppers is recommended. The recipe will still work if you use cans of diced tomatoes that DON'T have chili peppers. You will STILL need to use cans of green chilis for the recipe to work, though. (d)

You should still drink it with milk. I read that your lower intestine lacks pain receptors so chili will still bother them even if your guts aren't in pain. Milk can help you from rushing constantly to the bathroom. (c)

First, this recipe excludes cayenne or paprika spices which I strongly suspect are the source of the "Olliness" of Ollie's chili. In other words, this isn't unbearably spicy. (b)

I am going to attempt to "Ollie-cize" the chili I am going to put over some rotini I'm about to cook. May God have mercy on my soul

Picture of paprika, cayenne, hot pepper sauce, and chipotle pepper sauce I intend to add to some chili. Also salt, but that's for cooking the rotini.
