This old school dem is not particularly comfortable with the idea of justifying her shooting death on moral or political grounds. She was hardly innocent, but the person who shot her had no right to kill her for that.

The officer was holding down the last line of defense and in fear of his life. They were almost there and the bloodshed could have been horrific so he put the dog down. (Noem style) She could have stayed home, she could have walked away. She chose not to and caused her own death.
