The most obvious place for a new mega city: Bournemouth. No brainer. Great vibe. Best weather in the UK. Airport. 1:45 train to London. Hit the beach after work. Limited existing architectural value so you can smash it all down & stick a million people there. Do it.

Bournemouth is a buzzing, creative place. There is so much happening, a real entrepreneurial spirit and so much potential. Plus, the best writing festival in the world too 😆

So justification is travel time/distance to London? On that basis it's perpetual reinforcement of divide from SE to rest of the country

I moved to Bournemouth to get away from the big city. Build a megacity in Clacton and give them something proper to moan about. 😜😁

What about the north?! Make it Blackpool, with all the advantages of Bournemouth plus it's not near London.

Don't be daft. This Government prefers to cover prime agricultural land with housing and solar panels.

Well one of the mega solar farms Milliband approved within days of getting in is mostly below sea level so I guess some of these new towns will be.

Been there recently and has definitely gone down hill especially the town centre. Desperately needs to be more Brighton. Needs nice gay people and young creatives to move there and open some cool independent shops, restaurants and cafes.

Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch all one massive sprawl now anyway. If a new mega city needs building start from scratch, building suitable sawage, houses with solar, near a main line train rail, schools, health centres and a hospital. Build for the future rather than sticking plaster solutions.
