Cheaper and, if it works, an example of AI successfully doing a human task with the 'same' sensors. Humans don't have lidar so using it wouldn't prove AI can drive like a human.

I'm personally not so satisfied with the way humans drive lol. I would love it if computers could do a better job, and if advanced sensors like lidar make that possible, bring em on!
