It's likely they'll lose the House in the midterms. Then they'll blame the Democrats during the Presidential campaign. Or, better yet, the Democrats will stop the cuts from taking effect with help from 'moderate' GOP votes in the Senate and it won't be an issue anyway. But the tax cuts will stay.

I agree with you. Look, it's not that Sargent is wrong per se, it's that he's analyzing the situation under the old rules of the game, rules that have been jettisoned by the electorate and the politicians.

Right, like assuming this Trump administration will ever willingly leave office or cede power to another politician, Vance or otherwise.

States run elections, not the federal government, so it's impossible to rig or cancel them

It's impossible for states to rig elections? Are you serious?

Yeah they don’t want accountability for their own bills, so they’re making sure it won’t happen until after the moment Democrats could gain power again.

If the democrats are able to garner enough support in the senate and house to overturn a veto, that is an unambiguously good thing. I’d rather have a tougher fight for president than worry about how the gop may benefit from this.

Trump's not going to veto a bill stopping Medicare cuts that will make him look bad and affect 'his' voters. He would certainly veto anything touching the tax cuts or the absurd increase in ICE's budget.
