My hot take for the week is that I think it's actually much more difficult NOW for women to make it to Formula 1 than it has ever been. These days, basically, if your parents didn't drop you in a kart when you were three or four years old, you don't stand a chance.

Not to mention that if you aren't already incredibly wealthy, your parents need to be willing to make immense sacrifices for that one-in-a-million gamble. Support for female athletes has grown but the barriers have grown exponentially.

Been thinking about this because I've been reading about Lella Lombardi, the only woman to score points in Formula 1, who learned to drive so she could make deliveries for the family business. She wouldn't have stood a chance today, in a way that has *nothing* to do with her incredible talent.

So much this. Goblinkid is big into F1 and we are strong him very much into "look at all these cool jobs involved in F1 which aren't drivers" because like, we don't have the money/time/connections to ever get him even vaguely close.
