I feel like Nick would at least be respectful and studious in his role. He's a genuinely good dude.

As much as I think that's likely to be the case, I cannot condone it and simultaneously demand that Maybe Happy Ending consider finding an Asian actor somewhere in all of New York or that people stop casting cis actors to play trans characters or etc. Also, I'm not Chabad, so my vote counts less.
And as strongly as I feel about this, if there were ever a Rebbe movie, Chabadniks would be PISSED if a non-Jew were in that role. And though I'm generally not as mad about some Yid casting - prosthetic noses notwithstanding, FUCK THEM --what often happens is caricature, not nuance. See: Maisel.
I absolutely agree. And I'd much prefer casting roles for people that represent honesty and truth. Sorry if that came off otherwise.
I know Maisel was trying to be funny and over the top but the Jewy bits were played by people who didn't know how to embody them so it was a costume.
I couldn’t make it through the first episode of Maisel, especially having grown up in NY. And of course, so many people on finding out I’m Jewish tell me how much they loved it. I generally don’t like to yuck anyone’s yum, but I usually say I couldn’t watch it because it felt like caricatures. 🤷🏻♀️
(Abe notwithstanding. Tony Shalhoub gets all the passes. Every last one.)
Tony had the best moments.
It's like when Alan Alda plays a Jewish character, like he's not technically Jewish, but like.....
He is so damned talented.
