USSR only ever claimed to be socialist, its in the name. But the citizens had it better under communist party leadership in a socialist system than under the czars or the oligo-capitalist Russian federation.

I an old enough that the Soviet Union was still around. I have had in-depth conversations with ppl who lived under Soviet’s thumb. You know one thing they never said. “It wasn’t so bad” You had no ownership of anything. You had zero rights. You had no ability to change anything.
