Stupid people will always vote against their self-interest. They literally don't know better. The problem was the smart voters the Dems relied on stayed home, and not because of misogyny, racism, or trans hate, but because of the genocide. 6.5 million stayed home because of the genocide.
And in the process, those (non)voters consigned Palestinians to an even worse fate. Nothing is more stupid than locking yourself out of the house because you don’t like your seat at the table. The US electorate is a myopic mess.
That's the weakness caused by skipping primaries. Harris was stuck with (and embraced) Biden's contradictory position (Aid to Gaza, Weapons to Israel). If Biden made the decision not to run earlier, Dems would have had access to a candidate who didn't have that baggage.

Trump is objectively worse than Harris on Gaza - most US politicians are bad on this but Trump literally wouldn't care if everyone in Gaza was killed. And Trump is explicitly pro-Russia - Russia has killed even more in Ukraine than Israel has in Gaza, but you ignore this. Curious.

I'm not saying it's a good situation, but the choice in November was a) ongoing destruction in Gaza or b) the complete erasure of the Palestinians in that land. Option b) is worse than a). I wish that the Democrats were better on this, but Trump getting in wasn't the answer.

I think that's where the US is - the most generous interpretation of November was that many Americans didn't understand what they were voting for, i.e. they didn't bother to spend 5 mins looking into the candidates, the absolute minimum required for a democracy to work.
The pro Palestine voters tried to show their numbers. In Dearborn, MI, Stein won by a good margin on Palestine rights ticket. Combined with people who stayed home, Harris may have lost MI on the issue. Will Dems get the message? So far doesn't seem like after yesterday's vote.
