Am I correct in saying that New York can do this without a whole lot of hoopla unlike California? We have to have a special election, people have to vote to sidestep the citizens commission at least for a few years, only then we can begin remapping.

That’s…. Not how it works. It’s based on the number of people represented. The 2 districts were drawn to “pack” as many gop voters as possible into those two districts and “crack” the rest (break them up so they have no chance of winning an election in any one of the remaining ones).

And once Illinois and California do the same, the GOP will never win another election. No matter how many red states they try to redistrict. The numbers in the states are overwhelming.

In these areas they outnumber the normal people by significant amounts. They actually believe in all that propaganda about vaccines, masks, schools forcibly changing childrens' sex, transgender boys assaulting girls in school bathrooms. And these are NOT run of the mill toothless hicks.

The harder you gerrymander the more vulnuerable you are to a weak turnout of your side giving them a lot more than 2 districts. Its safer to give them 2.
