I speak more than one language but anxiety would get the better of me if I was in his situation, it’d be hard enough to get words out in my native tongue. And it’s not because of a lack of effort - I literally have a degree in my second language.
Him choosing to speak Spanish doesn’t mean he can’t speak English either, you’re drawing conclusions from how he’s acting in a pretty extreme situation.
I strongly disagree. He is expecting Americans to defend him and can't even speak our language in his one opportunity to address us? His demeanor and words did not indicate stress but resistance, by the way. May not have bothered you but it did me.
