Would you have shut Twitter down pre Musk? I doubt it, and if so that’s a serious problem. The site/app has become genuine poison. Pre Musk it was the best social media site around and people only realised that once it was gone. It was fantastic for getting news before mainstream news.

I didn’t have a major problem with it pre-Musk, but with hindsight that was the time when rules should have been introduced because it was always likely to become a weapon in the wrong hands.

You could argue that a lot of things would become weapons in the wrong hands. But you don’t use totalitarian laws like the OSA to censor the internet to combat the potential of that. It’s like going off to fish and using dynamite instead of a rod, it’s ridiculous and far too blunt. Won’t be popular

We regulate broadcasting and print journalism, and there’s nothing totalitarian than that. To argue that an immensely more powerful tool should get a pass is just crazy to me.

Apples and oranges, two completely different things there. The internet can be seen as a digital town square, broadcasting and print is so different that the argument there is just pointless to use, it’s ineffective as anyone involved in tech sees straight through it.

And there’s the digital cringe I mentioned.

The only thing that is cringe is you wanting to censor/shut down the internet. You’re not Monty Burns, you’re not going to block out the sun mate, it’s a losing battle you’re fighting.

You wouldn’t waste your time arguing against something you’re convinced is impossible. You’d just ignore. And the Monty Burns’ of this world are the ones controlling the digital space and gullible people like you. There is no ‘town square’. Most of it is automated fakery.

The only gullible ones are the ones who are striding to censor the web for absolutely no reason. “Automated fakery” sounds like the presence of anyone defending the Labour Party on the internet, they’re pretty much all bots, so maybe that’s why labour wants to shut it all down…

There are plenty of other ways to make the web safer for children. Totalitarian censorship laws is not one of them and the OSA whilst advertised as protecting children does nothing of the sort. Is this the best you’ve got? You’re only a step above one of those labour bot sock puppet accounts.
