Oral Ibuprofen and lidocaine cream might be the best you can do anyway. You could also try overwhelming the nerves with capsaicin, but I don't think even I would be insane enough to rub tiger balm on shingles.

A lot of stuff I read said don't use lidocaine on inflamed skin, so I didn't want to chance it. I actually have an ice pack on the middle of my back right now and that is helping quite a lot.

A lot of the pain seems to be the blisters right now, which is something.
