I feel like I would go a little further and say that the mainstream press has a broad reluctance to actively come to a conclusion or tell people "this specific thing is true" when they can just report the "opinions" of "important people" instead.

This kind of blends with my increasing conviction that the main thing that's going wrong with non-right-wing institutions right now is that the people with all the power are absolutely fucking terrified of taking responsibility for any outcomes.

It’s frightening how successful the racist faction of this country, comprised of government officials & community leaders, abetted by the media, have normalized this false & pernicious notion of “reverse racism,” somehow making the idea that white Americans, particularly men, are really the …

Agreed. But also because the right-wing’s beliefs are genuinely insane. Anyone explaining these views out of the control of our current predicament would be labeled insane- no one wants to believe they actually believe this crap.

I wonder if it’s bc they are afraid of completing the syllogism: these folks are white nationalists, white nationalism does bad stuff, therefore these folks are bad. Weirdly it’s the last part they are so averse to, when that should be the easy part. I guess because it violates news “neutrality”

They don't even ask the question about why anyone thinks we need higher fertility when our regime is also trying to remove millions of people from the country (and decrease women's access to birth control and reproductive health care).

Because it’s all about creating a “white” nation here. They’re afraid of being a minority. And your job as a woman in this context is to look pretty, take care of your man, and keep your many children quiet. Women who support this world view baffle me.

The implicit assumption of MSM is that the general reader is white. They don't want to risk "accusing" their reader of racism. I teach college writing and argument. My students of color already know this but for many white students, this is new and useful information

I would offer that part of the problem is the US has a deeply Calvinist sensibility in its cultural DNA; everything is about your personal relationship with God (or ethics in this case) which means that racism can only be a personal moral failing as opposed to a systemic problem.

The American media are afraid to point out fascism hiding out in the wholesome for fear that they themselves will be deemed unwholesome. Nevertheless, fascism always uses the most wholesome sounding slogans for the most obscene of programmes. See also en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinder%...
