This is a challenging shot! So hard to get the full sculpture in frame. Congrats to big 7!
This is a challenging shot! So hard to get the full sculpture in frame. Congrats to big 7!
in my mind there is a 7 yr old standing in front of this statue with his arms folded, looking onward <3
Nice rule of thirds there.
Wow! He has a natural eye for composition!
you might have a natural on your hands
For me, the Tidal Basin feels like a peaceful progressive enclave. A good break from the martial monuments around Lincoln. Some of the walk is torn up right now between Jefferson and Roosevelt memorials. It looks like it will be a great improvement for an area that used to flood regularly.
Excellent photo! 👏👏
Composition is a disappearing art in the age of zero cost digital photos. Back when each click cost over a dollar, it was valuable.
This is a great photo! I love photos taken by young children because they’re short and their camera is angled up so their photos have a cool, interesting look and feel.
It’s the eye, not the camera Good for him!
Proud papa! You taught him well.
Great shot…Great man🙌🏼🇨🇦🙌🏼
Excellent photo of a great monument. 👏👏👏
That’s a great photo shoot! Encourage him to pursue photography!
Tell Him great job
I always feel like Dr King in that statue looks like he’s had it with our shit and is coming out of there.
Well, I can’t unsee that!
Please read in James Baldwin's voice: "Well, just a bit more and he would be completely blocking the right, looks good to me!"
Link to the camera if you got time plz
I dont think many are comprehending the natural talent involved with a point and shoot when they are comparing it to their smart phone photos Your 7-year-old has a knack for it, for sure!
love the subtle vacation suggestion, too 🤭
Very talented.
You have a budding photographer on your hands!
Save it for posterity as it will have tRump's head placed on it very soon.
That's some serious skill and a good eye! Wish he'd been around a few weeks ago when I took a terrible picture of my wife and kids there. 😂
That could be a postcard.
Great eye for a little guy. Nice too that one can take hundreds of digital shots without exorbitant processing fees.
💙 💙 💙
hell yeah composition goes crazy
Alt text please
It's the perspective that makes this so nice. He did a great job.
Elite tier parenting brag (complimentary)
Your son has a good eye for photography.
Your 7 year old has real talent. Well done.
Great shot by your kiddo. Because I am a completely broken inside now, I thought to myself "Bet he (Trump) goes all Bamiyan Buddha on it before this is all over". But anyways, great pic.
That is some very strong 1/3 composition there. Well done.
omg adorable
Nice shot.
Kid's got an eye!
Reminds me of the 110mm camera I got as a kid. I proceeded to take photos of my uncle where his head was in the lower third of the frame. I guess I was more interested in … wall. Also I find it funny I remember this nearly 40 years later. The 7yo is way ahead of my curve.😆
Solid rule of 3rds
well done!
Impressive skills
One of the best things my Dad did for me was buy me a camera when I was seven. It helped me look at the world around me a little more closely and pay attention to what I was seeing. It’s a wonderful photograph.
I hope it will be looked back on fondly in the years to come. For those who know and love us, the experiences we share with them will be cherished for their entire lives. God Bless you and your son. For others who might read this, don’t let these moments pass. Time goes by swiftly.
This kid is nailing the rule of thirds
Also love how the figure is off to the right (as I look at it) but facing to the left. Symbolism, it’s a thing!
Beautifully!
Wow, A+ rule of thirds!
Future photojournalist…..
This is such a beautiful sculpture.
Awesome job!!! Awesome subject!!!
Framing AND Lighting! Nice photograph. My photography teacher in 7 and 8th grade was a WW2 vet. He taught us on wind your own film cameras, taught us the dark room, hated the new "auto-focus" cameras. I learned so much, and the phrase that stands out is,
"A photographer doesn't 'take pictures.' They 'make photographs.'" Good teaching.
Very nice✌🏼🥰
Great job to him!!!
Teach the rule of thirds.
As sometimes cinematography instructor at a university - I approve. Good symbolism in composition: choice of angle, placement and direction subject is facing relevant to historical and contemporary significance. Nice work.
Good job, small bouie
A 7 year old took this !!!!!! You got an artist on your hands !!!!!
Hah, googling "olympus infinity s" gives jamellebouie.net/blog/2023/11... as the very first result.
He's got a great eye already! All the more impressive for being film too.
Assuming you plan to take pictures with it - good luck finding the film, and even more-so getting it developed! 🤔
i shoot film sometimes. neither of those things are hard at all
It's actually not too hard to set up a home black room if you have a little bit of space. Developing film can be a fun hobby. Assuming you can find the film.
okay, so, the picture at the top was taken with the camera in the next post. film is incredibly easy to find and processing is easy to obtain as well
(also trying to develop color film yourself with C-41/CN-16 chemistry is truly an immense pain in the ass, source: I used to work for Fujifilm)
You can still buy and drop film off for developing at Walgreens. Short of that, Dwayne’s Photo has an affordable mail in service. I still shoot film on a Pentax K-1000 occasionally.
omg adorable
Loved that camera.
Reminds me of my family's old camera. Loved the click of the lens cover when you slide it back and forth
18 months ago, I started my then-7 year old son off with a 14 year old dSLR and a 20 year old 50mm f/1.8. Things escalated from there.
Olympus made the best consumer level film cameras
olmypus makes some really great point-and-shoots. some of my favorite photos have been with my little olympus xa2.
But how did he take a picture of the camera...?
His dad did.🤔🤯
Just the design on that thing.
Have you ever shot with an Olympus Xa2? Beautiful little clam shell rangefinder. Wonderful lens as well. I currently have 3. casualphotophile.com/2023/05/23/o...
That's how we rocked it in my day
Actual film camera. Nice. Love my Oly's even with the camera business reorganisation. jamellebouie.net/blog/2023/11...
Excellent eye for the shot! Had this camera and it is great!
I love the angle he shot. We are seeing it with his eyes❤️
Great gift for a seven year old! They can learn to appreciate the extraordinary as well as the ordinary. But especially help them to remember outings with their dad when they get older.
Impressive!
youre a good dad
Great photo!
The Celtics tank is really the chef’s kiss in this photo.
Your cousin, FROM BOSTON
As a fellow Masshole, I feel represented.
It's a whole story hidden in a moment!
Damn, he took a really good and well composed photo!
Mise-en-scene, magnifique
He’s got talent and a good teacher! ❤️
That’s a great shot and the framing is perfect.
Kids have a good eye for framing
What a great shot! Do you develop yourself or do you have a trusted place for your film?
Helps that he’s short 😜
You have a budding photographer 😊
👏
OMG, he’s got major photography skillz.
That’s a fantastic shot. I could go in and analyze the choices he made and say why it’s working so well — but nah. He doesn’t need anyone to do that. He’s got a great eye. Take more pictures, kid, you’re awesome.
Excellent subject choice as well. 👍
Got the fundamentals down.
Yeah, that's good stuff 👍
Great shot by your 7 years old! Please tell him congratulations for an outstanding shot of MLK statue!!!
Not only great framing but also great usage of angle to use the natural light/shadows, I think there is an innate gift here. Let him run with it!
Love this! I still think back to this one I took a few years back. Was only on iPhone.
Some people have an innate ability to compose (photographs, or drawing on a page) at any age. Your son has that! My daughter does as well. (Good scan as well!).
Man what time of day is this, the color of the light is tremendous
That's fantastic framing
nice!
This early success should definitely encourage your child to continue exploring the joys of photography.
Serious question. First time I saw it I was offended. Faced away unlike every other monument. Am I wrong or missing something?
Great shot! 📸
That was me when I was 10 yrs old. I had a point and shoot and took very creatively framed photos in national parks.
Yes, quite nice
trump is probably planning to level it 😬
In this house we obey the Rule of Thirds! Nicely done :)
That's a great picture! Awesome job!
He’s a natural! I trust you will keep encouraging him to develop his talent. No pun intended. 🤭
Good eye!
Good eye!!
👏👏👏
teach the rule of thirds first!
Not a hot take. It improves every pic for the rest of their lives. Even if they aren't photog nerds.
Outstanding!
this is a really good shot
That’s better than most of my university students would do! Good man!
That reminds me of 71 years ago when I became our family Brownie operator. Shoot one B&W frame at each event, send the film for processing after a few months...
Great colors on this, too. This is the default JPEG out-of-camera? I love it.
this is film
Well that certainly explains the beautiful film-like color profile!
Gorgeous!
I need him to give me lessons. I pay with 🍪 🍪 🍪 🍪
Well done!
Gave my daughter my old Stylus zoom 35 haven’t used since college and idk if it’s her, the camera or mpix processing but the shots look so good I want it back 🤣
Understands a leading line, well done kiddo.
Perfect shot. ❤️
Tell your 7 year old I say, Well done!
Good eye!
Noice!
Splendid!
What a great photo! You have an artist and photographer on your hands!
I'm anticipating the Trump Admin to have it removed under project 2025 agenda and being too woke and divisive!
good eye!
I think kids end up taking super interesting snaps sometimes because they are seeing everything at different angles than adults and the world is frequently not designed for them/their vantage point
We loved wading through what the kids thought photo worthy but tended to get out of focus “pick up sticks” on the floor and not significant monuments 🤦♀️
He's got a great eye!
Nicely done!
It doesn’t look real. He also timed it perfectly so no random people are in it.
Never say "point and shoot" about Minority Heroes. It gives the GOP ideas. And GOP ideas are always bad for everyone, but worse for Minorities.
Fantastic!
Can’t take a bad picture of that❤️💙
Rule of 3rds 💫
🙌🏽👍💯
He’s got a good eye for composition
Good job!
That's a framer - postcard worthy!
I shudder to think...
damn!! looking forward to seeing his work in a museum :) I wonder if there are photography and darkroom classes for kids? that would be so cool
I feel like kids would LOOOOVE that. the room is spooky, it's a really cool thing to watch a photo appear on a blank sheet... and the chemicals are hazardous obviously but I'm sure if it's a kids' class they would be really big on safety
Wonderful picture capturing MLK’s strength! Only 7? Wow, so talented.
Where is that?
It's good. Really captures the essence of the monument. How did you manage to go when there were no tourists around?
You are such a dad 🤭
Passing down passions & skills!! Watching their talents develop (I have no kids, but I hope that’s at least 1 dad joke point.) 🌞🌻💝
Hope he sticks with it. Good eye.
That's some great natural light. Good eye.
Very beautifully composed...I like the weight and the shapes they made.
Excellent composition! Reminds me of when my grandpa gave me an old 126 Instamatic. I really got some good shots with that old thing.
hell yeah youtube.com/shorts/iHg6w...
My son is a professional photographer, and has gotten his kids cameras. One of them, 7 years old, takes great photos!!
Nice pic
He did a great job, nice pictures. Are there workshops in using the camera around your area? He might love a workshop in photography.
Outstanding.
Excuse me ☝️ can we hand a full movie set to this child?
A 7 year old took this?? That's awesome!
Rule of thirds. Live it, love it, roll in it!
The kid has the eye. Get them started with learning editing as well.
Beautifully framed. Good eye.
Was just there a few weeks ago. Walked around to read all the quotes. Made me feel ok for a few minutes.
Nice job!
this is great
they are def hip to light and shadow. Very nice
