very excited for MAGA juche to double the price of getting a bookshelf
very excited for MAGA juche to double the price of getting a bookshelf
Why the fuck does he keep saying thank you for your attention to this matter I'm losing my fucking mind
Where else would they keep all their made in china dunce caps?
The new “tjariff” range from IKEA will be pretty special.
Is he just trying to make it harder for Vance to buy a couch?
Having recently needed to buy a cheap crap bookcase, I can attest the prices have already been doubled since early this year.
I live in NC in a city where the furniture industry is all there is; the word “market” here is a synonym for furniture sales. Like, all of the furniture is imported now. Sure it used to be made here, but tariffs nowadays would destroy every well-known American furniture brand.
Hell, what’s made here is all made from imported materials. I know that’s also true of the other industries that have been hit (thinking of steel/cars), but it’s just insane to hear it about something I’m passingly familiar with.
But what will the college kids and divorced men do? youtu.be/3i0Pwd74Xhc?...
dementia come to life to destroy our minds
Pretty sure the tariffs actually killed the domestic furniture manufacturer we got our couch from. All those raw materials coming in from China…
Not just materials - many furniture companies were steered by capital or boards to export physical manufacture. Even if you start with American wood (unlikely!) it is (was) cheaper to ship to Vietnam for piecing and assembly. The folly of the tariffs is you can't just, like, freely change overnight.
As intended.
Of course. All stick, no carrot.
They needed to hold all the books they don't read!
Facebook marketplace is going to become the black market and used furniture prices are going to skyrocket.
Even more awesome that the federal government is finally out of the socialistic business of “picking winners and losers”!
I learned a new word... "juche" Thanks!
“Thank you for your attention to this matter!” 🙄
The upside is that the Allen wrenches are free.
It’s not actually furniture until I assemble my patio bench at home, right?
“Wayfair? More like unfair!” Said a Trump administration intern, probably.
Back in the day, good conservatives used to relish in the idea of stripping down philipine forests for cheap coffee tables. Now a golf membership and your daughter’s wedding at the club gets you tariffs.
Wayfair, you got just what I need 🎶.
Oh my Bob’s.
masterfull gambit sir wits.worldbank.org/CountryProfi...
btw a country like the USA importing so much wood from a country like Germany is just nuts.
If you view all wood as the same and fungible, sure. But those are things that aren’t true.
Yeah, because of our famous big German forests full of oaks and Beechs.
Are those the categories of wood being imported? That’s an honest question.
Indeed. It should be from Canada. That way with less trees, less forest fires.
A bookshelf is a foreign concept to MAGA
MAGA don't need bookshelves for obvious reasons.
A schmuck like him comes along maybe every 500 years
Penalizing those who shop IKEA
Seriously - what does he think capitalization is for?
Welp, it’s “MAGA juche” now. Thank you for that.
Somebody named Billy was mean to him.
😂 deeeeeep cut
Best stuff IKEA has. Magats don't get it because Billy maked BOOK shelves.
There's going to be a run on bookcases at IKEA now.
The new profile pic is pretty sweet. Did you take it?
Was Sweden the closest country? Is this because Denmark signed something with Newsom?
Excellent logic. 'We will make sure that imported furniture is raised to the same price as the domestic furniture you don't want to buy because it's too expensive' What's next, internal tariffs on used furniture sales? Stupid. Orange. Moron.
where does raw material to build furniture come from? 80% outside the US.....
And the tools… from CNC machines to panel saws, thickness planners and joiners. DonPedo’s dementia has him stuck in a Leave it to Beaver loop.
Good luck with that. Thrift store furniture is going to skyrocket in price now.
Not everyone wants "Craftsmen" style furniture, though...
On a side note, I am so very very tired of all the stochastic capitalization. My eyes and brain are exhausted just by the jarring visuals, let alone the psychotic content.
Trump and gop are So out of touch.
No books where we're going.
I wager that the modern equipment that would make these “furniture” states competitive is all made overseas.
youtu.be/Y_V6y1ZCg_8?...
My partner and I have resolved to avoid buying new if we can help it.
This is what voters in Waukesha wanted I guess
That and for the age of consent to be lowered to 5. (What? Too dark?)
Well, the Shaker population doubled recently, so I guess Shaker furniture is a growth industry
@merriam-webster.com is going to have to develop a word to replace psychotic.
It's cool how after decades of doing everything I could to finally get a downpayment for a condo so I finally have a little bit of space to myself, furniture prices are going to skyrocket.
And Maga says, "What's a bookshelf?"
"We don't need no, edumacation"
And the Amish are like, "Great news for us, but, shit, we're gonna need a fuck ton more people to help build our furniture...."
Why do they expect companies to go through the time and expense of building a factory in the US when they could just pass the costs of the tarriffs onto consumers?
Also, what is the minimum amount of time it takes to build and staff a factory?? It can't be less than 18 months.
Exactly Why go through all that trouble when he'll be gone in 3 years, and most likely the next admin will strip away every tariff as fast as they can?
If it wasn't for Ukraine, why should any country bother to negotiate tariffs with Trump period? It has been repeated demonstrated as bad faith negotiations with Trump, so simply announce their tariffs will match the US's. Stop engaging him period.
Whether the US wants to admit it or not, we've just become unstable with regards to international business because of these constantly changing tariffs. They are already looking elsewhere for more stable trade. Much isn't going to come back to the US.
Only too bad for…everyone the furniture factories all closed 15 years ago. Hope you like the all sofa you already have ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Time to learn to repair stuff I guess. Rip my mattress though
If we get the tariffs just right John From will return. He will bring with Him ships and planes full of cargo.
Because Ikea and Rooms to Go is just too cheap for you Americans. BTW, the NC furniture is made with Canadian timber that is now highly taxed.
What do they need bookshelves for?
returning to the beautiful american tradition of balancing some 2x4s on some cinder blocks and zip tying together some milk crates
Soon, the US will be making Zenith TVs again in a choice wood-tone cabinets.
Trump lives in his own world of uncaring for anyone or anything. Greatness for the people is the care for them and not the greed for money. That will not happen with the BRAT.
We're gonna buy bookshelves from the Shakers. There's a third Shaker now, I hear they're growing real fast, 50% growth. You're gonna have to get used to one bookshelf for Christmas instead of twenty or thirty, but you really only need one book
I got a guy that can get you a couple black market Billy bookcases.
Non-zero chance he just cannot pronounce the names of IKEA furniture sets and is mad about it.
"I've decided to do something". "What have you decided to do?" "I haven't decided".
The notion that because furniture factories used to be in those places means they will be again is… well, I guess it makes more sense when you think you control the economy (or don’t care about it)
Detroit will once again be the potbelly stove capital of the world, thank you mister trump
But will Donald bring back the buggy whip industry?
Bookshelves are woke.
Along with education—and books, apparently.
Theyre gonna make a Skruvby into a $kruvby
I am tired of hoping that this will be the straw that finally breaks the camel’s back.
Yep, I’m sure the economy will hold for years while these factories are built.
I just choose we are going to make it out of this as a country. And 25 years from now when my grandkids ask, was 2025 really as bad as my fully funded public school that pays teacher $150k per year say? And the answer will be, your teachers are great, but it was more like, stupid-bad than just bad.
Ah, so we can destroy the few remaining old growth US forests to make crappy furniture to throw in a landfill after a few years to break down into yet more CO2 to pump into the atmosphere. Thanks Mr. Prez. Your name will be (in)famous for the brief time our civilization and species have left.
. Juche 🙌🌞
Apparently he does not have to furnish Baron’s dorm. Maybe NC will make furniture again, but with ALL THE PRICE INCREASES for food, shelter, energy, no one will be able to afford it. Clowns.
If they make Blahaj more expensive, there will be riots.
And presto! Just like that you have lumber, skilled workers, and manufacturing plants to supply 200 million homes. Good luck with that. What a goof.
Ha, jokes on you, they don't read.
He is going to make everything unaffordable for most folks. What an asshole. I hope the people who voted for this enjoy sitting on a cardboard box for a couch!
To be fair it’s not really furniture until I get it home and put it together.
It's not like his base owns books, after all
Came here to say this, but you beat me to it.
IKEA needs to fight - they sell furniture parts, not furniture
🤣 true.
MAGAts don’t read books.
Fortunately there will be plenty of liquidation sales and foreclosure auctions soon
I think this is an appropriate use of tariffs: protecting a struggling US industry. But his ham-fisted approach always seems to destroy rather than nurture.
As if they read books. Can't fool me! :)
Donald Trump is a fucking moron.
To be fair, MAGAts don't buy bookshelves because they've nothing to put on them.
Goddamn losers
Now Donald is going after WHITE countries with tariffs.
Time to taco some furniture tariffs!
It's all 4D chess to them. Less bookshelves means they have to burn less books in the future.
