A mesmerizing video essay
Anthony Jeselnik first put into words why I hate those people. So good of Bill Burr to realize he’s too good to be associated with those “comedians”.
Bill Burr is an American treasure
I fucking knew I was going to regret that while I was typing it
he's surely been spitting some but aint nobody really morally consistent lol
Not to say it's right to platform the Saudi's regime, but where exactly is Bill supposed to perform? If we want to talk about moral consistency there's an argument people shouldn't perform in the US either, which would be an issue for stand up comics with careers, particularly ones from the US.
Modern Sun City.
there's a difference in trying to speak truth to the society you were born and raised in and cashing a check in a slave state. if Bill takes the opportunity to shit on his sponsors in Saudi Arabia, more power to him, but we'll have to wait in see.
In the meantime, sanewashing the Saudi regime suuuuuucks. Getting paid by everyday people in America who want to hear anti billionaire and antioligarch messaging is so much different from getting paid to do PR by a state.
Fair, I can take that point.
Also, like, I'm not gonna hate on Burr for the rest of my life because he is at least directionally associated toward a better world, like, people are going to fuck up, especially white millionaire comedians from boston lol.
He's funny and says stuff I agree with sometimes and also he's not always up to my standards or morally consistent. He's a man, not an idol
Fair. Making a point not to idolize or deify celebrities is a good thing to remember.
I enjoyed it
This is 90 minutes. You’re a busy guy. Did you really watch this?
I saw it was a 90 minute youtube video and thought I would watch the first few minutes to see what this ridiculousness is about. Watched the whole damn thing.
Really sad about Duncan Trussell. Can't say I've been too aware of him outside The Midnight Gospel, but that was full of a lot of imagination, great questions, and wisdom. Defending Thiel, blarf.
I watched the first 15 minutes. Does it get better? I did not find the beginning funny or interesting.
Totally worth watching; it starts slow, but really picks up.
I saw this in my recommends and skipped it. Perhaps tonight I’ll give it a gander
Ellis dropped a real banger yesterday as well www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qwpa...
The Elephant Graveyard has some excellent videos but I think this is the best they've done
Hasan’s commentary was also fantastic: youtu.be/_3JGTyesP4Q?...
I loved the “I gotta get the hell out of here” refrain
It really is
I've binge-watched a few of his videos over the last few days - really good!
Superb, great recommendation.
Getting jumpscared by Jimmy Carr is crazy haven't thought about that dude in years.
It’s like brain-poisoned Adam Curtis (complementary)
The blight of Joe Rogan keeps spreading
Check out the Elephant Graveyard YouTube presentation on Jerry Seinfeld. It is a masterpiece.
I recently gave that one a re-watch, one of his best videos. Jerry really is a sad little man
Agreed. Bitter, little and owes his career to Larry David.
Among several others
Elephant Graveyard is so good
The Elephant Graveyard is a hidden gem. This individual, whoever he is, should be a cultural icon.
It was from a TEG video that I learned Joe Rogan thinks of himself as a comedian
It was the first entertainment career he tried and the last one he gained success in, because he isn't particularly good at it.
The whole series is good if you haven't. Blueprints for handling it elsewhere in the cathedral.
trigger warning for tony hinchcliffe's voice, face and general demeanor. the dude is a piece of shit.
I watched an episode of Kill Tony because I kept hearing about The Bump it was offering, but the only people getting a bump were unfunny, hateful shit heads.
the only reason i’m ever going to watch an episode of kill tony is if they actually follow through on the show title’s call to action
Sounds Like an Italian rfk jr who has the same sense of humor but sounds like he’s trying to be funny. The a holes all sound like roadkill that’s come to life - ghoul voices trying to hold onto this plane
I was blissfully unaware of that guy and his schtick until this video
"So he became what he feared the most: a big dumb asshole."
This video is the sequel! I really recommend the first if you haven’t seen it. youtu.be/_v3KiaAjpY8?...

"Garbage in, Tony out"
I've avoided him for so long, but the video is worth the torture.
I hadn't realized I had managed to avoid ever hearing his voice until I watched this. How could anybody stand to watch anything involving him for more than five minutes. Seeing him uncomfortable when he is getting roasted is very enjoyable at least
Far from his biggest offense, but I’ve never been less surprised that someone was stealing jokes
never seen an honest-to-god "ratface" outside a Disney cartoon until I saw that guy.
I watched this when mtsw posted it without the trigger warning, and good looking out because wow is that guy a piece of shit
The new @lindsayellis.bsky.social video is a very good parallel text. youtu.be/QwpanShgOp4?...
there’s also something interesting about him though where i’m just so fascinated that other people see what i’m seeing and enjoy it

I found myself in the Tony Hinchcliffe private discord through a mutual who worked at Blizzard around 2017.The scene where they are all being incredibly wicked towards Ric Flair is more or less what I experience.I thought it was some weird 4chan group and was genuinely shocked people acted like that
His four videos on Rogan are great. The Seinfeld video rocks, too
That Bill Maher bit is the most devastating thing I've ever seen
And the Ric Flair part is just unconscionable
Thought this was the Andy Kaufman character
The clip of George C Scott in the movie theater from Hardcore before the Kill Tony section had me in tears
100% agree
“I don’t know who any of these people are, but my dad says they’re important” I’ve never laughed out loud so hard
took the time to watch. i'm not used to this style, but i was really impressed by how it synthesized so many threads. eerie.
it's art
🩵
i was cracking up at the deadpan “i agree with everything he’s saying” as the culty guy was talking about cycles
ah correction that was the earlier video about joe rogan, still have to watch this one
oh, no, I think he talks about cycles in this one too. Elephant Graveyard has a few theses that serve as through-lines across multiple video essays
The man is world class hater. If you are interested, here's an equally good hater video about Destiny youtu.be/3-1L0LyqOYQ?...
“I love this guy”
Got me thankin

Thank you for this! Wow! This video essay is incredible.
Sent it to my 83 year old mom. She said it was long but worth it
Mr. Bouie I would be interested to know your thoughts on the latest episode of the Adam Friedland Show if you get around to it. Starring Ritchie Torres naturally
Well worth the time. Luckily youtube served up John Oliver right after, reassuring me that comedy wasn't entirely destroyed.

The Palantiri bit at the end is really incredible cultural commentary. Zizek eat your heart out.
What this video does so well is to show you how emotionally damaged and sad these folks are.
Yeah it almost makes me feel sorry for them. They were all just losers who decided to become the jock bullies after they got rich. Meanwhile healthy normal adults stopped thinking about high school bullshit at like age 21 at latest.
Did anyone notice this isn't just about comedy? It's the perfect framing for the Trump administration and Project 2025. Doomsday cult. It explains nearly everything.
Yes. The right has been at war with reality since the Scopes trial. They know what they believe is false. Instead of changing, they want to mandate their beliefs.
The whole rightwing comedy schtick is "we're not allowed to say this but we're saying it anyway haha! Take that wokies!" Like stfu dude no one's sensoring your unfunny asses.
Yes. It's always been this way since Bill Buckley. Of course what they mean is that they can't state their opinion without it being debunked. This bothers them greatly because in their minds, they are the only rational people. Everyone else is an "NPC"
The majority of that crowd are so damn unfunny. Some are actually funny and fell in the group for an easier ride. It’s kinda sad.
EGs last few vids have been amazing, been following since he didn't talk and just had great edits (like the Crowder one 💀💀)
Thx for reminder... Already on my watch list after the following: Atomic People (on now on PBS) Mr. Jones (2019) Sniper: The White Raven
Makes you thank man, makes you thank...
a LOT
It's so fucking good. I can't stop thankin'. A Lot
Thank ‘em
i finally got around to it a couple days ago and.... damn, this is one of the best pieces of media I've consumed in months it's one of the few video essays that doesn't plod along at an A=B=C rate, but rather jumps around in a chaotic, beautiful video quilt
"Humans began as simple tubes, a mouth and an asshole. The purest form of a proper organism" I laughed my ass off when i heard this.
I'm a 60yr old Gen X female really relieved we've managed to pass along to the next generation a keen revulsion for mind fuck
Whoa , thanks for putting this here, really appreciated!
Finished it last night! Highly recommend!

Was waiting for a follow up to his Joe Rogan video essay from a few months back.
Watching, so great! Only thing he left out about Mitzi is how hard she fought to NOT pay comics.
It’s truly devastating, if anyone ever deadpan-talked about me like this, I’d have no choice but to walk into the ocean
that miscarriage joke... disgusting
