That place looks seedy.
dudes will see this and say Hell Yes
I would be there all day.
What?!? The existence of an βapple cannonβ is not something Iβm familiar with and I feel robbed - does it work on androids too?
Here's a π for the funniest reply.
πΆ My country, 'tis of thee πΆ
When you really weant to keep the doctor away.
WE ARE NO LONGER ASKING THE DOCTOR TO STAY AWAY
You need to go to boot camp and train, Mister.
potatoes are the traditional ammo
The used to have a pumpkin cannon in Delaware for the punkin chunkin festival. It was awesome.
I spent many labor day weekends going to soccer tournaments in New Hampshire. Going to the harvest festival and watching the pumpkin cannon was always fun.
The Big Ten Inch !!!
I need to find this apple cannon + also go skeet shooting pronto
why?
So they checked with the homeless, schools, etc. first, and nobody wanted the apples?
Your theory being that this apple farm doesn't know their own business or product?
My comment had zero to do with whether or not they know their business or product.
Jeezus. There's ALWAYS (at least) one...
@thelouvreof.bsky.social
+1 π came here to post the same tag
Stop
no nobody wanted mealy, rotten apples
Most family farms have small scraggly apple orchards that produce small scabby apples that are basically inedible, thanks to Jonny Appleseed. He sold low quality saplings to settlers who planted them to prove they were truly βsettledβ and get land super cheap/free.
Thanks for the cordial explanation (unlike some). I always thought Jonny Appleseed danced through the forests throwing seeds, and that's how apple trees were invented. lol
Right? Me too! I heard him described as a frontier land developer. Heβd sell the cheap saplings until an area was settled then move on to the new western edge of the frontier.
Now it all makes sense.
Historian Paul Aron argues, "Chapman was.. a businessman. He bought many of the parcels of land on which he planted his seeds and ultimately accumulated about twelve hundred acres across three states.... He wore pauper's clothing by choice and not out of necessity." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_...
"Chapman planted his apples by seed.. but without grafting, about one in a 100 seedlings will yield an apple that is edible as a fruit." Apples only good for cider. "..what Johnny Appleseed was doing and the reason he was welcome in every cabin.. he was bringing the gift of alcohol to the frontier."
These orchards still dot farmland from Virginia to Minnesota. The apples they produce look (not to mention taste) nothing like the apples you find in stores. It would be a slap in the face to give them to the homeless, schools etc. Poor folks and kids deserve decent food, not our rejects.
Like how you decided you could just cold check a black man like you his damn parents
Just a question out of curiosity. For the record, I didn't notice the poster was Black. Since people use all types of 'avatars', I don't even look. So, should I check for race before crafting my responses?
Iβm sure you know damn well what race the internationally known New York Times columnist is.
You can be 'sure' all you want. I didn't know. Unlike some (I'm sure), I don't check a person's race before replying, because I don't care what race they are.
Got to load that up with your trash apples-- Red Delicious, Golden Russet, etc.
FYI @chuckwendig.bsky.social
holy shit
I finished your Black River Orchard recently. Holy hell. That was so good!

The only correct use of the second amendment.
I've seen pumpkin catapults before, but never an apple cannon! Mind: blown.
I'm holding out for the pumpkin trebuchet.
As god intended
North of Seattle, I think it was in Skagit County? there was a farm that planted U-pick pumpkins, and the last time we went (a number of years ago) they had two of those cannons but for pumpkins.
Where's the scold to say "they're wasting apples!"?
He told another user the apples were already rotten and thus unfit for human consumption. It's more entertaining to get rid of spoiled produce this way than to toss it in a compost bin.
Oh, they showed up and wanted to know why the apples were not given to the homeless.
IN GEORGIA IT WAS A CORN CANNON. My inner-white trash heart was BEAMING!
Wow! Leave it to America to weaponize a fruit. LMAO!
at mine you can shoot at horses (far enough away so you have to shoot ballistically and they land soft). the horses love it and eat the apples.
WHEN YOU SEE A CANNON WHICH SHOOTS APPLES TO A CAR
βApple Cannonβ sounds like a badass cider drink
Damn that looks like a good time
I'm not sure that sight is correcting for the ballistic trajectory. But yes, this is the use of apples that God intended.
"If I Had an Apple Launcher" was a great Bruce Cockburn song from the 80s.

ARE YOU MEETING WOKE ANTIFA THERE?
Proof that you are known to be out standing in your field.
the boy and i legitimately could have spent an hour shooting that cannon
I legit could have spent that hour downrange trying to catch them apples.
Lmao - new dad achievement level unlocked

dudes rock π
Firing apples sounds like fun but they should switch to pears, avocados and/or papayas they would be more ideally shaped to serve as ammo and would give them a better chance of hitting their target.
pomegranates! grenades were supposedly named after them
yes! you could just clip off the pomegranate "pin" to make them even more aerodynamic.
Avocados might do some damage with those pits π
true!
Your accuracy isn't great...
This is what America is for
The best kind of gun?
That sound is so satisfying
As a kid, we used to take the apples on the ground, poke them with a stick, and push a lady finger into the hole. Then we proceeded to throw apple grenades at each other
I just spent 5 minutes watching this video
makes a brilliant noise
Only an hour?
Thereβs a farm with a pumpkin cannon a couple hours south of L.A. and my kid never let me have a turn
Weaponizing their father's love against them. Smart kid, they'll do alright.
The dad of a friend of mine made a homemade potato gun. The hours that were spent shooting that thing...
Your dog will also love chasing potatoes shot out of the potato gun!
Have you been to shoot the freak in coney island? Maybe the greatest american entertainment invention of all time
Those cannons are deeply satisfying. Great *kachunk*
Oh man!
Go to Greenfield, NH in October, for pumpkins thrown by a trebuchet.
This is hilarious. I want a coconut cannon.
Oh SHIT
And a car in the line of fire?
This is what Trump and the GOP want to take away from us
Every fall we go to a corn maize and they have a row of apple cannons. Itβs awesome.
there's a whole herd of corpulent deer downrange of those targets.
And yellow jackets
where is this place and is it worth driving to?

John Wick Appleseed
This is an awesome Saturday with a kid! Or not.
I hope you saved the seeds.
not sure how common this is, but I once went to a pumpkin farm that used a huge compressed air cannon to shoot a pumpkin like a quarter mile, and it was legit one of the funniest things I've ever seen in real life
Granny Smith & Wesson
that's what they use in the Core.

An excellent idea!
Sunflower farms are my favourite π»
I once wrote a short story about an evil scarecrow in a field of mature sunflowers that manipulated the moping sunflowers and made them shoot the sunflower seeds at protagonist like they were sentry guns. I was really proud of my imagination in coming up with that.

there's even a soundtrack for that kind of field trip
Going to my local farm in a little while for tomatoes. They have sunflowers too! Hope you had a nice time.
Round here they grow seed stock sunflowers. After the females get fertilized and set seed, all the males get beheaded prior to harvesting
Reminds me of detassling corn when i was a kid.
Sounds like a bitch of a job!
