Wow. What a lovely reaction to come back to. Huge gratitude to everyone that has given me their time and lent me their ears. Keep it going. Share with all those who might enjoy it. Thank you! xx

Having been interrupted when I first tried to listen, I felt it deserved my full attention. Fascinating, thought provoking & hugely enjoyable. Thank you.
What a journey. So loved this, Alex. Hoping more is on its way. Thank you❤️

In den antiken Traumbüchern bedeutet: Sich spiegeln = Tod.
“⬆️In the ancient dream books means: to reflect oneself = death.”
Ooh! How interesting.
Fascinating episode. Great project. Even if I do wonder how truly 'Greek' a Greek myth is that we mostly only know about through Ovid. (And yes Parthenius, but the differences are important.)
I guess, as Egyptian as what we know from Greek historians about their mythology is, etc. Which is why I tie it back to the Homeric hymn to Demeter at the end, where N is just a flower. It isn't really that important. The notion of nationality is pretty fluid back then, anyway.
I think a good number of these stories/mythologies are so very ancient that they come from deep prehistory. Where they were written down, 'first recorded' is just the annotation of later ages.
There are further examples coming where different sources are directly contradictory - about Cassandra for instance, who according to some sources had two of Agamemnon's kids and lived to a ripe old age. I recorded early drafts with a more academic approach to different sources, but it was dull.
In the end, I decidedthe primary function of this was story-telling. So, I would choose my favourite (and most impactful) shaping of each myth and make that the starting point. I am so grateful for your engaging with the material so thoughtfully. xx
Yes, I was hoping for a level of pedantry that wasn't appropriate to what you are (admirably) trying to achieve with this series. I suppose I would highlight though that (as you know) the (prior) Parthenius version precludes any association with Echo ... or metamorphosis.
Eastern Mediterranean, often as not. Recall that Herodotus, while in Egypt, was so greatly exercised about the Heracles stories he found there that he took a trip to Tyre in an attempt to pinpoint its origin, eventually concluding that there was both the earlier god Heracles, and Heracles the hero.
Oh there are LOADS of mythical personas who might be amalgamations. AND the reverse. Super-powerful earth nature mother goddess, was chopped up into smaller female deities, as society passed from matriarchal to patriarchal.
Oooh this looks right up my street - will seek it out. Thank you!
I’m sure it wasn’t dull
It kinda was. It was the equivalent of being forced to read footnotes in the middle of a novel.
I absolutely loved it! So many take-aways! Keep it lit!!
Thank you for the podcast, I’ve just finished listening to it and felt like standing up and applauding. It’s so good.
Is it age appropriate for a 10yo? A friend's son is obsessed with Greek mythology

Young children often don't pick up on the adult themes while adults do. My grandmother thought I shouldn't be watching Up Pompeii but I only picked up on the smut in pubertal repeats.
It amused me that as I listened to this, the chosen adverts was a Walmart beauty products campaign. Seemed appropriate but I am very much the stoney ground for that particular seed.
Ha! Are you in the States then?
Yes. San Francisco to be specific.
For now at least 🤷♂️
Frisco features in the next episode!
I will listen (but I would have anyway).
I just listened, and “Wow” is my response, too—a brilliant, invigorating, thought-provoking piece of work. I can’t wait for the next episode. Congratulations, Alex.
Very well strung together, interesting , fresh and easy to listen to. This is actually the first time I’ve listened to a whole podcast and been left wanting for next week! I’ve now recommended it to my 21 yo on his very long commute, and this should be the ultimate test.
🤞🏽
I enjoyed the intellectual stimulation. It tickled parts of my brain that had been left unattended for quite some time. It also left me thinking and that is important. After so much dumbing down, it is good to hear another interesting perspective, thank you. Your pronunciation in Spanish, very good.
Just listened to it on a stroll through the Walthamstow Wetlands. Your passion and the fact you’re so comfortably in your groove really shows. Also, your prose is poetry. Can’t wait for the next episode.
🙏🏽
Half way through, Alex. Your new podcast is fabulous. Utterly compelling.
Loved it 😊
This was an absolute delight. Loved the format and the depth of the analysis, plus your amazing rich voice makes it a fantastic listen. Looking forward to the next episode.
Looking forward to the next one Alex absolutely brilliant 💪👏
Virtuoso work, thanks so much. Brilliant to 'hear' (a la section on Echo) so many women experts and artists. When's the book out? And any chance of a programme on the Minoans?
Was great. Loved the fact you are tying up the mythology to arts, sociology, psychology, etc… pleasure to listen to. Then I went back to “how they broke Britain” from @mrjamesob.bsky.social and found this page 28…
Lovely! As a psychotherapist I have often thought that it’s rarely Narcissus who ends up seeking therapy - it’s usually Echo
So true! As @dr-ruthsmith.bsky.social attested!
Can’t wait for the Oedipus episode…
A two-parter FOR SURE.
Liked this a lot. Thanks for the intro to Marianna Sangita and lots of other glorious music.
What a beautiful and interesting Pod. I’m so appreciative of the extensive research that’s taken place to pull this wonderful Odyssey into Greek mythology and its interactions with our current perceptions. A story weaved by the beautiful tones of Alex. Excited for the next sweet journey. Thank You
Going to walk round our little town listening to it. xxxx
Unfortunately I can't find you on Pocket Casts. 😥
It's definitely there. play.pocketcasts.com/podcasts/9e9...
Hi Alex, This was a joy this morning.. I had no idea I was interested in Greek gods 🤣 Looking forward to more podcasts from you 🙏🏼
It was wonderful Alex
This was wonderful, Alex. The last ten minutes were eye opening. Thank you.
Just pure delight! Loved it, thank you.
Heard it twice! Just amazing - the choice of music made it incredible interactive for me. Και σε άλλα τέτοια ή σε ανώτερα! 🙌
This is every bit as good as I thought it would be. I held off on listening until I found the right moment, which turned out to be walking the dog with the daffodils blooming around us. Thank you Alex.
I'm not a podcasts person at all - I've tried and I never stick with them, it just doesn't fit my life all that well. However, so much hype for this, that I installed PocketCasts just to give it a go, and it was excellent, very interesting indeed. 1/3
One thought that occurred to me when you were talking about mirrors and hubris, was a potential parallel with Twin Peaks, and particularly the path of Dale Cooper whose mirror scene is iconic - although he's certainly not the only one to have a very significant mirror/self-gaze moment. 2/3
More on the hubris side though - one reading of TP (esp S3) is that Cooper's hubris in believing he can fix everything is what ultimately leads to his failure (if it is a failure - even that is debatable) and his being consumed/lost as a result. I wonder if Lynch/Frost had Narcissus in mind. 3/3
I think you will be quite pleased with this weekend’s coming episode. 😉
Ha, spoilers! ;-) Nice one, thanks - and congrats again, top work.
Thanks. I'm looking forward to this!
Excellent pod Alex & beautifully put together 👍
Thank you! A x
I saw the pod, I saw you were hosting. What a marriage! This will be a firm favourite on my bedtime pod list. Eagerly awaiting the next episode. Alex, you were born to podcast. You just have it 🙌🏼
Tremendous. Thank you.
Just found you again after following you for so long on the other place (which I left and deleted after Musk’s ridiculous comments about UK last summer).
I still haven't had the opportunity to listen, but as a @quietriotpod.bsky.social follower and Greek mythology enthusiastic, I am sure it will be awesome!
Now, for the next episode, put in notes who sings the intro. Same Marianna? And where do we find meaningful translation of what she says?
The full track will be released to mark the launch of our YouTube channel in a couple of weeks. x
Ooh, great idea!
Warm congratulations on this excellent first episode. A long-time listener to “Oh, God” and “Quiet Riot”, here in rural New Zealand.
Sending lots of love. x
Thank you, @sturdyalex.bsky.social - just listened to Podyssey and loved it - perfect listening for a Sunday morning
So! Anyway...how often do you reckon you will be releasing episodes? X
I am aiming for weekly, but they may end up being fortnightly. Because OMG
OK fortnightly seems more reasonable in terms of time!
Loved it! 👏🏻👏🏻
I loved it
Both fun and thought-provoking, thank you for this!
Loved it - thank you.
Alex, it’s magnificent: human and whimsical and profound.
Dear Alex, My sincerest congratulations on the new podcast. I found it utterly absorbing, learned so much and, as I almost never do with any other podcast, will certainly listen again. I hope it gets the audience it deserves.
Just listened on flight home from Oslo - fabulous 👌
