OK correction - back at work today so looked it up and although Douglas Carswell's parents lived + worked in Uganda for 2 decades from 3 years before his birth, and he says he grew up there, he was born in Westminster, London. Seems his family came back to use the NHS and then returned to Kampala.

She worked as a junior doctor in various posts and then moved with her young family to newly independent Uganda in 1968.
