The idea is the fun part. Execute it better and I'll delete this one. But don't act like you paid for The Phantom of The Opera and were less than impressed with the chandelier scene.

I'm not acting like I paid for anything, or could produce anything better, though I certainly wouldn't use AI to try. I follow & respect your views on much & surprised you'd share AI images, regardless of how fun the concept within, given it's based on the theft of creative works of actual people.
I didn't use it and had no idea it was AI. I would never use it professionallu, but you need to chill out a bit when it comes to memes. They are all rip-offs anyway. It's part of the joke. Do you know who first circulated these images? Of course not. How is writing something witty on them different?
I'll admit to a less than ideal knee-jerk reaction, but the memes here were still created by people. I don't think anyone expects the originator of a meme to be credited, that's not what makes the meme a meme. But an image created by a machine trained on stolen art is another thing altogether.
Just because someone uses it to make a meme doesn't legitimise its use. I understand you didn't create it, but I think people using it 'for fun' or even to make valid criticisms of those in power or the bigots they inspire is not reason enough to perpetuate the existence of something so unethical.
That may not sound chill, but I follow a lot of artists and writers who I hate to see disaffected, so it's an important topic to me and I am just sorry to see it spread so easily and freely.
I agree with Adam on this. With the greatest respect to you, Alex, and given that BlueSky is very much a place that seems to be home to creative voices, there are probably better people out there who can illustrate why AI is such a danger, even if used for easy jokes. Basically, it’s insidious.
I love how both of you glosses over the fact I HAD NO IDEA IT WAS AI and carried on regardless.
Ok, Alex. Fair enough. If I read your response to Adam incorrectly, that’s on me, I guess.
That's fair. I addressed your point about memes etc., but am sorry I obviously used you to try to make a wider point as well. I suppose it's a shame they're not all tagged in some way. I was going to say they're only going to become harder to spot, but as AI eats itself that might not be true.
