Honestly not a bad analogy for as far as furry inflation porn analogies go. Like furry porn, there is still an undeniable degree of talent on display by the artist (or in bethesdas case, fun gameplay and interesting worlds to explore) even if it isnt to my taste

i think it's the other way around though- they're an artist who used to make furry porn and found a lucrative market making suggestive christian friendly greeting cards or something.

Either way, they used to make X, now make Y. They found Y made a lot more money, hard to fault them for chasing it. X was better, though.

it was! there's magic in the earlier games they made. it gets all washed out in some sort of bland individualism fantasy by skyrim / oblivion.

I believe that streamlining does not always mean simplifying. That said, the Elder Scrolls series has done both. I honestly don't mind the eight stats being streamlined to three. I really hate weapons being combined to three kinds. And I want to see the nigh-useless language skills working.

agreed! in fact i'm doing a lot of streamlining in my current project in terms of interfaces, but it's in the service of role play instead of modern results-orientedness.
