Not as much work as you might think. First year I mowed ultra short in the autumn and raked so you could see some bare soil. Scattered the seed and bingo - it reappears every year and I collect seed to put elsewhere. All I do is mow it short in autumn and early spring 🤷🏻♀️
Interesting, much easier than a friend who tried similar then. Maybe the seed was less viable. After five years, it’s less established than yours.
There’s no stopping it - pops up all over the place now. Maybe it just likes our soil. Fairly sandy and poor quality. We always had a ‘weedy’ lawn, and never treated it with anything. Buttercups and hawkbit thrive so it’s a very yellow themed meadow.
That sandy soil will be a big factor, friend is on clay, much too rich!
Yes - that will make a big difference. I take note of what’s growing locally too. Knapweed does well for instance - just starting to flower now.
That ‘note what’s growing naturally’ is a top tip, no wonder you’re doing well.
A rather dull damp day but the Knapweed is making it’s presence felt 🙂 This is the road verge beyond our hedge which I have, ahem, commandeered 👀 Or perhaps I can say, reclaimed for insects.
Good on your commandeering, excellent result. Maybe ‘adopting’ sounds less risky of a charge of purprestre (which is such a wonderful word, I’ve fabricated an excuse to use it 😂)
