Fox News literally made half of America political junkies over the course of 40 years and that’s why they are winning now. It’s about time Dems started thinking about politics as much as they have lol.

Thank you. I read it. I don’t like to comment if I haven’t read an article. It’s pretty typical for the headline to be misleading - like this one. Terrible headline and while I don’t agree with everything written there are some valid points.

This is true. I started noticing it when the idea of the “Rogan on the Left” became a thing. One nitpick I have: it's not that Harris was wrong about the optics of being a female politician and having hobbies—it's that she was facing a “damned if you do, damned if you don't” situation.

The Atlantic needs to figure out why it keeps blaming the party that is trying to save democracy when it could - very legitimately - question the "activities" of the party trying to lead the US into autocratic rule.

Thanks for this. I found the article to be a bit of a stretch. There was a somewhat tortured attempt to blame Dems for being willing to put in the work of understanding the political implications of our complex world. 'Be like the grasshopper, singing and dancing--not like the boring old ant!'

Yeah, I didn't think it intended to blame Dems for their focus on policy & politics such as encourage them to do more to appeal to the huge fraction of the electorate who are tuned out. When what they have to offer is only reaching the politically engaged, they have less chance of winning elections.

That's part of what the Atlantic article is saying. That if Dem candidates want to reach the voters who are tuned out of politics, they need to align themselves more with currents in popular culture—sports, music, & so on.

you need disposable income to have hobbies. working class does not have that. now why the working class is not voting democrat you'd have to ask yourself and look at what you've done to make that happen.

You can typically start MANY hobbies for 20-30 bucks or less. Many crafts have almost no startup or running costs. Working class people can and do have hobbies.

I don't care how busy you are everyone can find an hour or so a week. Some hobbies don't even require it to be contiguous. If you are poor and busy it limits the hobbies you can have, but doesn't preclude you from the concept.

No one would rather be worrying about the collapse of democracy, but that’s what drew us to The Democratic Party. MAGA has *never* really cared about politics, they’re just concerned with provincial grievances. Trump is the attack dog that lets them get back to their huntin and fishin, worry free.
