CBS claims that its decision to cancel Stephen Colbert’s show is “financial,” but “the network that once made Cronkite the most trusted man in America no longer gets the benefit of the doubt,” @dgraham.bsky.social argues: https://theatln.tc/5Zs1kvNa

I wouldn't be surprised if it's an unwritten condition of the sale, to shed these voices ahead of time so Ellison doesn't immediately look like the propagandist he almost certainly will be

It's 100% a financial decision, they don't want a $10B lawsuit or the merger blocked or whatever else taco comes up with

If this was only a financial decision, why not do what John Stewart did and make the show just once a week?

Of course, it’s financial-they want the merger to go through.

It's certainly financial in one sense: they want nothing standing in the way of that merger. To that end, Colbert becomes a minor sacrifice.

Not the first time either. CBS and W. did Dan Rather dirty too. And it all happened under Les Moonves who left under his own cloud of shame and gifted his second wife and former sidepiece, Julie Chen, a completely unnecessary and stupidly overcompensated career as a game show host on his network.

It was. Paramount seeks FCC approval for their merger with Skydance Media. Colbert's (accurate) comments could have upset the emperor Donald, known for lashing out petulantly, and he might have stopped the FCC approval. Hence, "financial".

No, not a financial decision. Just more overt thought policing. Controlling political enemies and silencing dissident voices. Just more state control and authoritarian strong-arming. Just what Project 2025 promised.

Decision was financial, huh? Well your finances will now be dwindling down. Losing subscribers by huge numbers is exactly what ya wanted, i guess. Only 2 cbs shows i enjoyed as it is. Not gonna say ill miss them.
