The release of a new Pixar film was once a major theatrical event, no matter how out-there the story. But the studio's latest movie, "Elio," has failed to connect with audiences—suggesting a studio at a crossroads, writes David Sims: https://theatln.tc/h9GdlRq6

Pixar has the best battling average in the biz. No one hits 100%. To claim it failed to connect is silly. Movies have a life beyond theatrical release - I mean do you not know this?

That was before the age of superhero "universe" franchises and studios throwing all their clout and cash into popular IP's. It was also before Trump, Elon Musk and MAGA turned everything into a war on all things considered woke, PiXAR's model no longer has the appeal to a mass of insensitive retards

wouldn’t be surprised one bit, the creators are still as talented as ever, the corporate execs always ruin good things making horrible decisions and never face accountability other than a golden parachute when they are forced out of the job

It’s been consistently in the top 10 since its release. How is that a failure?

It has a $150 million production budget, but will probably end its I.S. run with half that. (Don’t ask about the international take.) It’s doomed as a major money loser.

My 9 year old not only loved it but asked repeatedly to see it. I think the problem is with it not connecting with their traditional adult audience. This parent’s perspective: you’ll love it if you grew up feeling like the odd one out. If not, you won’t get the usual Pixar feels.

Also movie’s been out for weeks, why are you just now making a thing about? It was clear after its opening weekend it was going to be a box office dud? What’s your angle/narrative?
