When did artists start doing the thing where, whenever a character opens their hand up, their middle and ring finger are stuck together? this isn't a thing that happens in nature

Probably just a stylistic choice that some people adapted from one artist or media. I do it occasionally because it’s just more simple and looks a bit better to me than drawing all the fingers individually (aka I’m lazy)
