THIS??
THIS??
Insane, right?!
Definitely thought it was like, a rocky cliff 🙃
Same here, exactly!!!
My family in RI refer to it as Plymouth Pebble.
ahahahahahaha this is perfect
AND it broke AND it was moved (multiple times) AND if it even IS the rock was actually just a town boundary AND...
Well, that was a disappointing family vacation.
Needs googly eyes.
omg someone needs to photoshop those in stat
The way I laughed when my friend sent me this photo. It's just...such a perfect distillation of the American grift. A symbol that is basically being used as a synecdoche but that is, in its own right, quite pathetic
what is this, a rock for ants?
LMAOOO welcome to the club. One of my favorite things about living in MA is knowing this and watching people learn this. Some guy recently punked his kids by getting them all hyped to see it beforehand.
I mean this silly country hypes people up about this rock all on its own, no need for parental involvement even!
A friend of mine flew in from Detroit wearing shoes that she thought were appropriate for hiking when we said we would go see Plymouth Rock. 😂😂😂 She was stunned. All was forgiven after lobstah rolls and chowdah at Cabby Shack 🦞🦞🦞
would never occur to me to name this rock
hahahahah literally made me lol
That’s because you’re not trying to sell newspapers and tourists on your grift
There's a chunk of it in London, too. humanities-research.exeter.ac.uk/voyagingthro...
Yup! I remember seeing it and thinking the same thing. Sadly, I lost all my photos of that trip. Apparently, it used to be much larger!
And its just a random rock someone chose, it might as well be called the "Blarney Rock" because it is bs.
A small, broken and quite likely meaningless rock at the bottom of a hole. Worst historic site ever, LOL.
Oh, I remember hiking with my family for hours to see "airplane monument" in some national park, Jellystone or Yosemite... Get to "the monument" and it was the engine sitting in the ground, and a plaque.
I feel like I'd be more excited by an old engine tbh
I mean the engine at least powered a flying machine, presumably. The rock is of zero importance and never did anything. It is easy to get to, though.
Hmmm still better than ANY confederate monument but that’s burying the bar.
Also tbf both the Blarney Stone and the stone of scone are pretty unassuming so we can assume Brit refugees had pretty low standards.
Well, yes, and those aren’t really historical anyway since most of them were churned out by factories in the Jim Crow era
They are actually more historical than Plymouth Rock because the civil war did in fact happen. There’s 0 evidence that rock or any other played any role in puritan colonization or that anyone landed near the location it was located
I was going to say Plymouth Rock isn’t racist but of course it is so … I dunno, maybe you have me beat?
I mean…it wasn’t primarily racist just sort of tangentially racist whereas the consolation prizes are absolutely racist so definitely worse.
I say we give them all the Suck Award and call it a day
This is the award youtu.be/8ZoiKkepfrM
Yeah the peak year is like 1920-21 and 70% are from the same factory in Massachusetts
I mean yeah... it's a rock... it's in the name.
I legit thought it was like a cliff, a bluff, something much bigger!
Just another disappointing rock.
Spray it gold ✨️ Trump's Lump
Please do not say that where he can hear it...
I have seen it in person and it was very disappointing. I was also told that it wasn't in fact the original rock.
Oh I thought it was like a boulder or something
I thought it was like, a cliff? An island? Anything but a tiny little rock?
As a Massachusetts native, yeah it's... Anticlimactic. I hear it used to be bigger but between people touching it and erosion it's now held hostage in a cage unable to roam free as all rocks should.
Not so much touching as but chipping pieces off to take home. Hence the enclosure...
On the other hand, if you believe the all rocks are liquid theory, at least it doesn't have to pretend to be solid anymore and can just jiggle there liquidly without anyone touching it
People can touch it with their eyes lol
