The point is about letting people enjoy the food they desire not about botulism, a person who obviously can't cook, or perhaps a murderer.

Ackee is highly toxic if not fully ripened, so it probably wasn't botulism, murder, or cooking skills. Just someone misjudging how ripe the fruit was.
