When I moved out to Cleveland, I found sanctuary in the public library. I was crashing on a friend's couch, in an apartment with no air conditioning. The library gave me a place to be cool, write my resume and find where send my resumes (this was in the late 80's). Cooling center & so much more!

It would be nice if all the churches - the so called Christian churches would open at least part of their buildings as cooling centers - and just spit-balling here - overnight sleeping centers for homeless folks. All those buildings - empty for most of the week and all that tax free land - thoughts?

That was why they were originally designated tax-exempt. A whole lot of religious buildings should have lost that status a long time ago, and all those megapastors.

Ours is not - no AC, which would take millions to retrofit. Unfortunately, some people who need a cooling center show up because they've been misinformed. We've posted about this, which has helped. I'm a fan of yours, love what you do, hope I don't sound cross : ) Love you

The library in Carbondale, IL, a college town, has social work students doing internship, to assist the homeless. Their AC did go on the fritz earlier this summer. Last weekend, a group of teenagers descended on a homeless camp like Donald Trump deployed them. www.kfvs12.com/2025/08/19/c...
