Paul Simonon played a gig at my bar a few years ago. I'm a huge Clash fan. I went over and introduced myself, he said "Nice to meet you, I'm Paul". I said "Omg I know who are!" He replied "Well, I don't like to assume". Lovely man.

@pimpunk.bsky.social This might pertain to your interests.
I hope they knew who was in front of them. Amazing to see him with the kids and having so much fun.

Now that’s cool 🔥
"In August of 1976, Strummer and his bandmate Paul Simonon decided to visit the Notting Hill Carnival. The local constabulary did not exactly share their enthusiasm for the irie vibes."
Cool clip. Thank you.
Damn! There really is hope!
This💙🎶💜👏
Legend.
Luv luv luv! 🖤🧷🖤🧷
God I love this
Incredible!
How cool, both for the kids and Simonon. Kids: Famous musician asks you to play one of his songs, it's one you know, and he sings it with you. Simonon: You meet (young) kids who know your music, you ask them to play the first song you wrote, and they know it.
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!
Highlight of the day already😁🎶
How do you know the back story with them playing Death or Glory first, is there a longer version of the clip? And does anyone know which book that is with the yellow cover?
It's on their tiktok 😀 this is the whole clip though
Ah, TikTok, where the young people are. ;) Thanks, I’ll read it up!
Aha! vm.tiktok.com/ZNdDD5KTo/

Ah, thank you! 🙏 I have a story in a similar book: amzn.eu/d/4J1RwNf

The kids are alright
❤️🔥

Love this.
Bright spark.
The youth, they give me hope.
❤️

Arguably the best thing on the internet this week.
hell yes
Omg this is the best thing ever
Fuckn onions…
oh that's great, thanks for the share @isabelrogers.bsky.social Living up in Wester Ross, you forget London and stuff like this
What a story those kids will have all their lives.
The existence of Paul Simonon implies there also exists an Art Garfunkeloff
Oooo... The perfect skeet does exist! Brava/Bravo!
There is of course his mom’s brother, the Art Garfunkeluncle.
Outstanding work, my friend. 👏👏👏😂
I just needed to tag you @milesofgray.bsky.social because I knew you'd get it. (And watch the video of the kids busking).
👏
😂
Damn! Beat me to a good skeet by 3h! (I must assume UR in the PT zone…)
Boy did it take me a few seconds to figure this out and when I did, christ, did I laugh.
I’m so glad these are still happening
I love that he's become a sweet old guy. Those kids will be telling this story for decades.
Made my day
Lovely to see young people being encouraged. Well done Paul.
Love this
📌
My first thought was… THAT’s Paul Simon? 😆
It got me too. 😁
I also misread it. Then I thought THAT's Paul Simonon?
We old. But we ain't dead yet.
We just have bad eyesight.
Brilliant.
First Album I bought
I am so happy I saw this ❤️
Not a numbers guy at all but out of curiosity I checked & this exact message, video, text & all got 4 RT & 27 likes on Twitter 🙄
The handful of people on Twitter who know who The Clash are strongly disagree with The Clash.
Meanwhile, those children are now Internet stars. The small one has a proper 80s Mohawk now.
I read more about it. They'd met Simonon before & they adore him, they say he's generous with stories, advice. But I think he just runs into them on his manor.
Children should be playing music. Especially punk music.
@rodman.bsky.social @andyzax.bsky.social you'll enjoy this
Thanks, Justin! I absolutely love this. Simonon has been, is, always will be the best. And what lapsed or recovering punk rocker (looking in the mirror here) wouldn’t be gobsmacked in the most wondrous way to see a band of kids picking up the banner? And with such heart and spirit?
🎯
He signed my chemical warfare coat at Target Video in San Francisco in 1982. Super nice guy 💛 What a gift I love this
this is just generally great, I love how cool he was about all of it www.tiktok.com/@the_whops/v...
@kalebhorton.bsky.social
Loooove these kids!
This is just so damned cool!
THE BEST THING IVE EVER SEEN. Crying. The kids are alright
I have just watched this 14 times in a row
The kids are alright!
That rocks...🤟🤘
😮
@spreeblick.com
Love it.
📌
What an amazing moment for them.
I love this so much!
Tag @svegaard.bsky.social
The best thing I've seen all day. I may have something in my eye...
Paul looking dapper as ever.
Then you realize that London Calling came out 46 years ago, so this is sorta like kids their age in 1979 doing music by Bing Crosby, Fred Astaire, or Duke Ellington... 😵💫 But dang I salute them for their good taste!
📌
Made my day, thank you for posting this ❤️
The only video that matters.
This made my year!!
Poor kid sentenced to bass already
lmao
Of course they do!!
Got to love The Clash. Amazing band!
@mrsdottieparker.bsky.social
@basilatwork.bsky.social
He’s a good sport ❤️
This is genuinely brilliant!
Love this!!
Wait. Wait. These children played Death or Glory. Did... did they sing the line.
Maybe they'll later join the church
🤔
Either way, I'm delighted. But I do wonder.
this makes me deliriously happy
Honestly, those kids might have peaked as musicians.
great, love it
Very beautiful moment between these musicians!
Not sure that the wee guy on the left was aware of his proximity to bona fide royalty.
Lydon called the Clash imposters. That clown should stick to selling butter.
This had made my day. Thanks
Coolest thing ever
totally cool 😀 thanks for sharing :)
Punk never dies
Wanted to be Paul Simonon or Pete Farndon when I grew up.
🙌🏼 yes!🙌🏼
Wow!!! Beautiful
Wow. This is fantastic!
I love this, fantastic.
Very cool!! 😎 Chance of a lifetime! Getting to play for a legend! Awesome!
I regret that I can only "like" this video once, instead of 10,000 times.
Wow. Really.
Hey @zhinxy.bsky.social you seen this?
I’m frequently in the area, sorry I missed it.
Paul remains the coolest dude in every room…
Reminds me of this little gem.
omg how have i never seen this
Dammit, i was about to reply with this. Well done.
I can't believe how long ago it was!
Thank you for linking to this! I love the musician's reaction when Somerville shows up!
@billiegoat.bsky.social 👆
They are now part of the only band that matters! Makes my heart sing! We need more PUNK, we need more PUNK.
Oh this is just wonderful
Amazing
Everything about this makes me happy. Thank you!

🥹🤩🥰💪
I thought the headline read Paul Simon at first... Imagine my chagrin.
📌
Him and Galen Ayers put out a lovely album a couple years ago called "Can we do Tomorrow Another Day?". Really enjoyable.
Love it!

Amei! ✨✨✨
Great clip and top bloke. Met him back in the very early 80's while he was rifling thru reggae 7" ers in Honest John's under the Westway. Starstruck silence tinged with nerves...he was a bit scary back then! Should have chatted as I later learned he was sound. Haha!
Can I get a judge’s ruling on the pronunciation of “The Whops”?
It's The Who-ps. Like "hoops" You know, like the Oneders youtu.be/7o40za1wAlI?...
Paul Simonon is a proper gent. "Words can't describe what this man means to us - the closest one is HERO. Every time we meet him, he's beyond generous, sharing stories and advice that shaped punk, music, and the soul of #London. We'll never forget this moment. Ever." www.tiktok.com/@the_whops/v...
TIL how European Paul Simonon is. "My mum was born in Nice, one granddad was from Whitby, my dad was born in Camberwell and his father was from Belgium. So I'm a bit of everywhere." h/t the ex-Q magazine / New Cue newsletter May 2023 @thenewcue.bsky.social thenewcue.substack.com/p/the-new-cu...
His Grandad being from Whitby is great news. I can now claim the Clash as a Yorkshire band.
Backstage and downstairs for Clash 1979 NYC Palladium. Cheap beers first at the Ukrainian Club and then the Irish bar on 14th across from the P. 16 years old 😂 💪🏼🎸resist
Hell yeah
Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros at Irving Plaza , Jim Jarmusch was at the bar, snuck in with my friends and was maybe 15.
Cool! (man, we could really use Joe these days) :(
We sure could :)
This is so cool
