some magic players are just dumb. There's no metric where you could say FF was the worst set of all time, but 1 in 20 hyper online nerds said so because new bad and because ub bad aetherdrift suffers from the same, and many people saw the racing angle and decided it was the monthly Death of MagicTM

FF was the worst set for price and availability reasons, and also introduced a huge complexity creep spike. Also an arguably net negative impact on constructed. Nowhere near the worst set, but like. It’s not the golden child that FF fans make it out to be

I'm not a fan of FF (never played it, know nothing about it), but FIN was one of the best limited sets I've ever played in. Every color pair had a unique niche (except perhaps UB, but even that was functional). Constructed's problems are with WotC, not FIN.

bit weird to separate the final fantasy set from wizards of the coast like that, seeing as how wizards of the coast made the final fantasy set

WotC is much more than the design team of FIN. FIN is just one set of many and it's primarily concerned with limited--not constructed--formats. WotC is in charge of the ecosystem as a whole, including constructed. They're different teams & groups of people.

you are confusing your ub buzzwords, doctor who is the complex one, FF is fairly tame.

how is it that the magic community spent weeks calling human resources over the praetor sagas but says “aww that’s sweet” when a set came with like 3x the amount of tdfc saga creatures that actively encourage you to play with all the other tdfc saha creatures

Sorry that sagas are too hard for you a decade after they first came out. I promise it is a skill issue

that was me describing what the ~15 people i play with have expressed. unlike you i dont focus my viewpoints and opinions entirely within my limited personal experience-- if you're gonna try and own me at least dont do it based on shoddy assumptions.

And even at that, Doctor Who being complex isn’t a black mark either. People somehow got this idea that UB sets = new players and therefore they should all be simple when they’re just as much for entrenched players

There should be a balance between the two. Commander is already a hostile enough environment for tracking as it is

The fantasy genre fan-base is infested with miserable grognards who just want the same post-tolkien slop forever and are disgusted by anything that takes fantasy outside that psychological playpen; but fortunately I believe this problem will mostly disappear when Gen-X does 😊

Yeah Magic players famously hate when their fantasy has robots, time travel, extradimensional alien monsters, larger than life archetype characters and bio-engineered supersoldier experiments

FF specifically and UB in general aren't the worst because of individual sets, but what they represent and are part of the product flood shift that's just exhausting. Aetherdrift is in the "Hat" line with a cool concept executed terribly. Speed doesn't feel dynamic, streets across planes are weird.

FF was a good set, yes. Designed with a lot of care and love. But I worry what it making 200 Million bucks day one means for the future. Capitalism usually takes the wrong lessons from successes like this.
