I think it's interesting that democratic disapproval tops out at -8. Maybe it's because these are cities, and you could get something approximating Republican numbers if you included Bumfuck, Missouri.

Interesting that San Antonio scores so high with Republicans. It's a super-majority non-white city that went strongly for Harris. It's only beat out by Nashville so perhaps this is just measuring "would I want to spend a vacation weekend there"?

Yeah I wonder what numbers they’d get if they asked Democrats about, like, “rural Alabama”

The Democrats who were surveyed are way too positive on Miami.

Incidentally, it's weird St. Louis isn't on here.

But I think it's plausible that the real problem here is that, as always, Democrats just refuse to hate Republicans as much as they deserve.

I don’t think older democratic leaders understand just how much republican children are taught to hate “those bleeding heart liberals,” as my family would say

Although, the D numbers seem more rational overall. The R numbers are all over the place.

I think it just looks that way because of the sorting. If you sorted it by R approval, you'd be like "ah, yeah, those are all the cities with lots of black people"

Are they similar? I know Bakersfield is pretty Republican

All I think I know of them is that they're both mid-sized cities in California's central valley. I can't imagine most people outside California have nuanced opinions of the difference between the two.

lol at Bakersfield being -24 among republicans. That’s like the epicentre of inland California conservatism. Although I guess even they hate Kevin McCarthy.
