Culturally liberal in every important way, but will only vote her interests after a bunch of hemming and hawing because the Democratic brand just isn't cool enough

Well she opposes genocide so what should she do? Support the party where 1/2 its members are screaming about stopping the genocide. Or the party where they love the genocide and want more of it.
Perhaps she doesn’t feel that “her interests” are actually being represented by either party? I don’t think coolness has much to do with it, and “young people” are not as stupid as you are supposing. Dems are merely the “least bad” option right now to most non-GOP voters.
The Dem dinosaurs clinging to power is not the problem itself, but a symptom of the true rot at the core of the party, which is the controlling interest held by the donor class.
quick name the best US president we've ever had, and then try to argue they weren't "the least bad" option when they were elected.
Side note: Tenet [the movie] rules.
FDR? I’m not really a student of history.
the guy who interred Japanese Americans, and tolerated segregationist dixiecrats in his coalition?
I don't know why but she reads as super racist to me. probably because it seems like she's really trying to "sell" her whiteness.
In what way is she “selling” her whiteness?
I can't put my finger on it but the super pale face makeup is in the vicinity
It reads to me as a clear nod to 80s alternative artists like Kate Bush, Siousxie Sioux and Boy George.
ok yeah after a few google searches I don't see it
This is as much a problem with the party as it is with Chappell. If the party's dinosaurs would stop clinging to power, maybe young people would feel even a little bit of excitement about voting for Democrats. Like there's only so much you can ask of young people, who are by and large stupid
I'm going to die angry about the AOC vs Connelly thing. The easiest possible layup in terms of throwing a bone to the party's base and instead they appointed a literal dead man walking.
And Connelly’s explanation of why he should be was just that he hadn’t had a chance to be chair yet. It was a gift of a chair because he was dying and I can’t get over it.
I mean, no reason for urgency that I can think of.
"Connolly is a young 74, cancer notwithstanding" is gonna stay in my mind forever
please don't tell me that's an actual, non-sarcastic, quote. please
They really are that stupid. I have terrible news.
It is
I hate the gerontocracy, so god damn much.
He was actually a pretty good congressman and not bad on media as well. But nowhere in the league of AOC. And he also reps NoVa, quite possibly the congressional district with the most federal layoffs, so the lack of a Congressperson for that district right now is especially harmful for this moment.
I agree with the general thrust of this, but the party did very famously force its biggest dinosaur to withdraw from the race and the result was not exactly a surge in youth vote towards Dems.
In fact it still led to a move right among "the youths" despite Republicans running a 78 year old for the 3rd time...
A surge was probably not going to happen after years of presiding over inflation and post COVID malaise But it would’ve been so much worse if Biden stayed in.
yeah honestly "queer MO-NYC economic-cultural migrant" seems like someone the party should focus on more, there's going to be more more of those in the coming years
This would make sense, if young people didn't also attack every young Democrat that came around like Pete Buttigieg. Maybe it isn't about party dinosaurs.
a young dinosaur is still a dinosaur
Thanks for proving the point!
was the point that you understand very little?
My point is precisely that it isn't about age. You said it wasn't about age. I don't know how this confuses you.
idk how op was using it but typically when I see "dinosaur" in politics it has more to do with outmoded ideas, ways of communicating, etc. Buttigieg is young but there's a reason his fans are much older. you have heard of Mamdani, yes? the youths love him
He's talking about the actual 80+ year old dinosaurs that run the Democratic party, like Schumer, Pelosi, etc. Mamdani won a contested primary solely in NYC against Andrew Cuomo with the support of all of his other primary opponents.
ok? he dominated the primary largely because of massive support from young people. its been awhile since I could be considered young but it seems obvious that they aren't asking for the same old politics in a younger package. I would have thought the Bernie phenomenon made that clear
He dominated the primary because the opponent was Andrew Cuomo, a sex pest who helped ruin NYC, and even then he came relatively close to winning. Remember when Bernie Sanders lost both of his Presidential primary campaigns lmfao
Any thought given to the consequences of publicly saying such broad yet also shallow things as, "young people are stupid" while complaining that they won't support your political positions?
Having younger, more dynamic leaders supporting positions aligned with a younger electorate is critical. It's also important to show respect for young people and their views, even if you don't understand or agree with them. "Gen Z won't vote for policy I like. They're stupid." Coldest take ever.
The American people, including Gen Z, by about a 2-1 margin, decided that they either actively wanted Trump again, or that he was an acceptable option not worth voting against. That does not deserve respect.
If you care about trans rights, and did not vote for Harris, you're an idiot. I don't care about your reasons. Thoughts and prayers aren't a substitute for hormone therapy, nor restore the lost careers of those who have been forced out of our military.
If you think children dying of starvation or disease in other countries is bad, and did not vote for Harris. Congrats, USAID is gone and millions will die because of that. You can have my forgiveness and respect when you bring the dead back to life.
Exactly - she's a great singer, songwriter, and performer, not a political operative!
I think it's fine to criticize people for being politically stupid regardless of their role in society. We are a democracy after all. It's also fine to criticize the party for not winning people over. Responsibility is shared.
When I criticize Chappelle Roan for her politics, I'm not criticizing her for doing her job badly When I criticize the DNC for their politics, I very much am criticizing them for doing their jobs badly
But also like, afaik Chappelle Roan has exactly the politics you would expect from the person who wrote "Pink Pony Club"
And I'm saying that's bad. I'm not required to treat people's politics as fixed and exogenous. If I can criticize a MAGA ghoul for being evil, I can criticize Chappell for being vapid
For all the talk of the emperor having no clothes wrt Trump it’s honestly wild how ill-equipped Dems and Dem leadership specifically is for the moment. Years and years of bullshit about how they’re ready to fight Trump and the most they’ve got is a dollar store pop gun.
So long as they have the rights of adult citizens, I expect adult citizen behavior out of them. I was prepared to die for my country at 18. I can expect them to at least vote for it.
My zoomer kids were really excited about AOC and then the party smothered that.
Choosing not to vote for Harris was a badge of privilege for some people.
She’s 100% gonna go MAGA, let’s be real.
Do you have a shred of evidence for why a pro-trans, pro-Palestine lesbian would “go MAGA”?
