Influencers make money, they are essentially profitable businesses - not sure they make that much though. Niche publications never make any money, strictly a patronage model.

I’m aware of the finances of niche publications. They almost never make money. It’s a subsidized enterprise. Subscription revenue is a pittance.

Philanthropic organization grants, many have media as part of their advocacy strategy. Wealthy individuals, same as someone financing a movie but that’s too low brow for them.

Be conspiratorial, what the hell. If I was the Heritage Foundation, I'd fund allies (establishment Democrats), & their opposition (progressives, left, commies, socialists, etc). I'd fund everyone. Because funding ($) is my god, & getting everyone using it is good for me & my allies. Taxes are evil.
