I think the amount of philanthropy truly driven by religion is small, absent religion most philanthropists would have secular motivations to do similar work
Similarly just being a less religious society wouldn’t make bigots suddenly better, but it would make it so people don’t argue we have to tolerate their bigotry because it’s “their sincere religious belief”
Philanthropists seem to be driven by two things: a) Launder their reputation, b) Tax write-offs.
