The only "financial" decision CBS made was to keep their impending deal with SKY from being blocked by the orange idiot. So yeah, it was financial.
Seems to me that settling the lawsuit with Orangeolini is going to cause a large financial problem than keeping Colbert on the air
Financially, this will hurt them. Colbert is the MOST watched late night show, not the least, so it has to be political. Our freedoms disappear daily.
yeah, CBS gonna have no viewers soon. looks good on them.
Voting for Trump has given the US citizens a life changing experience .. was this what you wanted ?stop the world I want to get off !!!!!
They are taking the knee for the demented asshole in the White House for strictly financial reasons. Isn’t capitalism wonderful ?
No it wasn't. He was fired at the behest of Trump. Part of the lawsuit settlement.
No
Stephen Colbert & Face the Nation were the only shows I watched on cbs. I can do without FtN…..adios CBS.
Financial? Yes because we are going to boycott all show on cbs and boycott Paramount as well - We will watch Colbert only. When they sack him we will stop watching it entirely. Yes this is OUR financial choice!
Now I’ve lost Fox & CBS…I vote with my ballot, my wallet and my choices. BB & Survivor, goodbye; Tracker & Matlock are dead to me. Thanks for sharing this article!
Probably not but I can't stand that show. I liked him on The daily show but his show is a little dry for me
I used to never miss an episode of 60 minutes until they thought we should all be subjected to the racist ranting of MTG, stopped watching them and haven't gone back. The only thing I watch on CBS is Colbert, when he's gone there'll be no reason to ever watch CBS.My affiliate is owned by Sinclair,FAFO
CBS? Because I certainly do.
What I found particularly gross was Joe Scarsboro - fearing for his own talk show - implying that CBS was justified in claiming “it was for financial reasons.” KISS my butt, Joe.
"Is Colbert’s Ouster Really Just a ‘Financial Decision’?" Oooh! Oooh! I know the answer! No
🙋me too!!
Well, if you include the $8 billion merger of Paramount and Skydance as a “financial reason”…
FUCK CBS——CANCEL PARAMOUNT +
#BoycottCBS
no. for further evidence paramount removed south park from its service shortly after the settlement to trump... and we know how often south park makes fun of trump
Thank you for The Atlantic gift article. CBS has (had? past tense, not sure yet) been my TV network of choice, for news, sit coms and Late Night TV, Stephen Colbert. Change is in the air. There are a bunch of powerful people making these decisions, however, statistically 'we' outnumber 'them'.
Absolutely not .
Boycott CBS (crappy bull shit)
Just cancelled my paramount plus subscription.
Duh.
#BoycottCBS
When the ratings show that his show was the only one in the positive for eyes on the screen. Obviously it is not about the $$$. 💩🤡 wants to silence anyone that criticizes him. Another reason not to watch, Paramount, CBS or ABC or Fox. I've given up watching american tv, I can't watch that whining!!
It's financial. CBS decided the income generated by the most successful late night TV show is too much. They'd rather lose market share, ratings, and substantial income. Any company that aligns themselves with Trump makes the decision that losing money is better than making it. Just look at Target.
It is a political favors decision. The CEO should be crucified for caving to a dictator.
Just cancelled @paramountplusbr.bsky.social ! Fuck CBS!
Not at all!
Also fuck Paramount @cbsnews.com They are ultimately responsible for this gross capitulation to a wannabe dictator.
There are so many excellent independent reporters, now seems like the time to bring them together and start a network that just tells the truth. It feels like we’re desperate for it. Screw being left leaning or right leaning, just tell the truth with no spin.
Exactly!
Interesting that when they were put against the wall CBS decided to let Ed Murrow go against McCarthy even though they were plenty nervous about it. They may have helped save independent legacy media in the 1950s. Now they are doing the opposite. Murrow would be spinning in his grave for sure.
We could pressure Paramount.
