I see Lays (apparently French for Walkers) are trying to catch up, but they don’t have the buzz. Actually I’ve tried a few (family bought them while they were staying) and I was underwhelmed. Tapenade, pesto mozzarella… I’ll stick to plain

I find Lays a bit chemical tbh. With over 30 flavours, Brets are a bit of a personal trial & error. Jura, bacon, yakitori, chicken, goats cheese & chillies are favourites in our house. Some others are a bit underwhelming, particularly some of the 2025 range. Everyone has different tastes.
The one and only ones to eat here. Simple and moreish. No chemical favourings. Lays are vile.
I have a fond memory of the goat cheese and wild cherry ones, but only ever saw them once. I still love their 'à l'ancienne' plain ones, but I like the cheddar/piment ones they have at the moment. And the Bleu d'Auvergne.
I like the way they serve sheep cheese with cherry jam in the Pyrenees. Perhaps your flavour was a homage to that
Could be! I serve our local goat cheese with various jams and chutneys - or did, when we did B&B. People loved it! I have some sheep cheese in the fridge, and I know I have some cherry jam I made a couple of years ago. Could be a plan for tonight!
Wild cherry!! 😯 Our current favourite is Falafel 😁
Yep, I liked those too! Our only supplier that has more than a couple of sorts is a small garage outside town - the owner (who is lovely) is a HUGE Brets fan. Shame the petrol is so expensive there but it's also a 'point relais' for parcels. I might need to order something to pick up there.
Haha yes time for a parcel!
The yakatori chicken is immense
I don't think I tried that, since we only had the Vico beef teriyaki, which is the best
It’s a must. Possibly the best crisp I’ve ever eaten
The Vico one or the Brets? Have you eaten both?
The Brets, haven’t had the Vico one.
Will try if I see it!
Agree about Lays. Bought in a fit of enthusiasm by family when they were trying some of the Bret’s, which were stacked next to them. As I’m on my own I only buy crisps when I have company
Yes. Jura was one flavour bought by The Young. It was quite enjoyable
Packets have an extra 10% in them at the moment.
I still can cope with that
Interestingly my Leclerc labels Jura shelf as Comté
I miss the blue cheese and prosciutto ones. Carefully avoiding typing prosecco which would be plain weird
Maybe not for a company that made pastis crisps?
And beer (sans alcool) and cheddar
…which are also missed. They were delish.
I like the Lays mustard and pickles one and the Ossau Iraty and sun-dried tomatoes is pretty good too. Other than that, I've not been too impressed with the ones I've tried.
Never tasted Brett’s. We have some Spanish ones with truffle. Delicious!
Lays are American & they own Walkers brand which they use for UK & Ireland.
Thanks for info. I could say “that explains a lot” but that would be giving my prejudices an airing
