I don't know that it's a direct effect. More like a catalyst for inherent insecurities and weaknesses. There are some quiet, open-minded rich folks.

The way I've heard it put is wealth exaggerates everything about you, for better and worse.

But they are the minority of stinking rich people. Far more such people are sociopathic in their behaviour, if not their mental state, though sociopaths are over-represented in high levels of business, and, sadly, gov't. Though that may because of the foolish idea gov't is like a business.
