Grew up in IL and moved to FL after college. After I had my first kid, I moved back up to IL. Ppl thought I was crazy to give up the sunshine & warmth, but it was definitely the rt decision. Their schools there sucked them and that was almost 20 years ago.
I don’t even live in the good part of FL. I’m in the most prep-neck, expensive lifted truck, neighborhood in a box part you can think of. Really happy to know I’m making wise and precedented decisions for my 2.
I was in Orlando/Winter Park area. I was told straight up that I either better get my kid into private school or have enough $ to live in h the best neighborhood for public schools. So either way, have $$. I love my kids’ education here. No complaints really.
My son is more than likely to end up in an ESE class. State will no longer give diplomas to those students. My other is a very opinionated 7 year old girl. Yea. Illinois is the place to be. Within a year neither will be deemed human here. Very familiar with that area tho, same as up here in Jax.
Sorry, I should’ve said, for the state of IL, not FL. Though we worked in other states. One being TX. Talked about a fucked up state for their SpEd population.
My oldest had an IEP and I also have a very opinionated 8 yo girl (😂) so same page! No diploma? That’s fucked up. I am well versed in that world, as I worked for several years for the primary company to provide IEP paperwork software for the state. I can’t believe they can do that legally.
It’s new news. Heard from wife who learned from her aunt with a student that’s been watching benefits be stripped away past few months. It’s the wild west down here and I’d just like some peace and good education. And geology. Heard IL has that. Lol
Yep! Well, I hope you & your family enjoy the change and it’s what you’re hoping for. I still don’t love the winters (though snow is occasionally pretty)but I’ll willingly trudge through ice & snow & bitter cold for a few months out of the year to be sure my kids have a better place to live
