I think it’s a little silly to say people can’t distinguish between someone being genuine and someone pretending to be genuine.

I don't think people can, actually, at least not consistently. But my point is that a lot of times people decide someone is "inauthentic" for reasons other than if they're "genuine," whatever we take that to mean.
