John Redfern along with his tailors and seamstresses is one of the makers to feature in my book Dressing the Queen. Working on copy edits this week and thinking of all those who contributed to gowns like this cashmere kimono style, belonging to Heather Firbank c1913 #V&A FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

The top half of a black cashmere kimono style gown with bright purple sash and round Tudor style collar. It fastens asymmetrically and has silk covered toggles running the length of the dress A detail of the black cashmere kimono style dress focusing on the purple sash and silk covered toggles Front and back view of the black cashmere kimono style dress revealing a purple bow at the back

Love this so much. I would like to know what the silver fabric seen at the neck is. Want some right now.

To what event would a dress like this be worn? Or is this an at home garment?

Yes it is a half mourning dress. The long sleeves suggest it is probably an afternoon dress rather than evening unless worn at home perhaps
