One of the reasons I no longer work at the sheriffs office in my county. Uvalde was the last straw for me. It hit too close to home and too many of the deputies were trying to take the side of those officers at Uvalde. What good is “protect and serve” if you’re too scared to do either?

As a former combat soldier, I understand that the career isn't for everyone- even though it pays okay and the benefits were good- if you can't, you can't! Cops need to make that same self determination- too many of them should not be there because of their inability to serve DESPITE felt fear.

The Pay actually got worse. I started with a salary of $25k after taxes in 2020, briefly got a pay raise to $30k in 2022, then it was closer to $22k when I left in 2023. I make more as a shift manager at Sonic. people like me and I don’t have to worry about hurting innocent people all the time.
