so yeah an uncle of mine died today. he was an alcoholic with mental illness. and while sad, this is the fate of so many of my family members. amazingly, I have thus far dodged this inevitable fate (one day at a time for 16+ years) and, while tragic, I can’t help but also feel grateful too🩵

Alcoholism dogs the steps of a lot of people in my family too so I know what you mean about feeling grateful to avoid being another similar tragedy for your family. It sounds like he died in a lot of pain and that's terrible fate, I'm sorry for him and for you and your family's loss.
