I’d love for everyone to be super careful here. There are PLENTY of military men and women who do not support this AT ALL. Educate yourselves about how it would go for these service members to disobey an order. We’d like to think it is as easy as saying no- but it is much much more complicated.

Some of the "just following orders" people in German likely felt that way, too. I sympathize, but they're still making a choice. I just hope they see what happened to the trans service people recently regardless of loyalty.

My child serves. I will not share what she said to me regarding this topic but I promise you- this post was coming from a devastated place of a mom of a Marine currently serving. I never said they should comply. I said it’s complicated and you cannot assume they all cannot be trusted.

And to be clear, I have had to resign from a job TWICE — one ended with me having to move in with a family member b/c I ended up unemployed — because I did the right thing (reported discrimination/bigotry both times) and they made life hell. I know from where I speak.

Also, when they sign up, I would think most believe they’re agreeing to risk their lives “for their country.” But can’t risk a court martial to save American democracy? And if they all refuse, what can the regime do, really? ICE is no match for them and the people would hail them as heroes!

I was a military wife. My DH was career Navy 23 years. He did two 9 month deployments to Vietnam, a 2 month break in between. This was at the height of the rage against that war. I know what it means to endure judgment. And for his service, Agent Orange gave him PD which ultimately killed him.
