Looking back, Yoshi's Island felt like something truly different and special. The art style was mesmerising. SMW was brilliant as well, but it was also "another Mario game".

Well I do love both. But will say mario world upon release did feel very new and fresh with the world interaction hub and having a yoshi. It really was a moment in time for me personally

I only experienced these games at friends, so for me the first 4 Mario games were awesome for the moments I got to play them, but still kind of same-y.

The nes games for sure. For me I just remember how open the world felt with the new hub and the star worlds that brought a whole new challange. Fond memories for me for sure

Pointing leftwards to Super Mario World. 😁 I tried Yoshi's Island the other day and I really couldn't get into it. Granted, it's held in high esteem amongst many gamers but I'm amongst the dissenting few that haven't seen its appeal. More power to those who have but I prefer SMW. 🎮

SMW is my favourite too and not only favourite mario game but favourite overall game on any console !

You really can't go wrong and this is about as win-win as choices get. Graphically Yoshi's Island is on another level, but of the two I've probably played and enjoyed World more.

It's about as near perfect as a game can be. The SNES is also easily in my top 3 consoles. So many good games.

The snes is my favourite section is my new room !

It was one of the few retro consoles I could never find a good deal on when I was collecting. It was still so pulsar popular people didn't sell them off. And if you did find one, they wanted hundreds for them. I could find everything from Turbografix to Dreamcast. But no SNES lol

I know my man, the snes has been like this illusion for me since 1993 where Ive never seen it cheap. Ever. Says alot about the console too

Right. I love both of these games, but there is something extra magical about Yoshi's Island. I think one reason why is because we continue to get more Mario games that add to the spirit of SMW, but all Yoshi games since Yoshi's Island have failed to live up to the original. Also, THE MUSIC!

I love both but would say no 2D mario game after mario world has never lived up or felt the same as mario world. Yoshis island DS while not as good did at least look and feel like it was from that universe

Left for me on this one. My friend and I put in a lot of hours trying to find and beat every level in Mario World. Tubular was the one we got stuck on

Ironically Tubular is my favourite level in any game

Middle - Super Mario All-Stars plus Super Mario World cartridge, pure gaming gold. PS: I adore Yoshi’s Island, beautiful art style, clever SuperFX2 use for rotating/scaling, and so much depth with all the collectibles, alternative controls and ingenious levels

LEFT. YI doesn't have as good flow, it's fiddly and annoying in places, and the SFX visuals while technically impressive do not look as clean and sharp as SMW.

I tend to agree. I think the puzzle nature and marios screaming is a big draw back for YI
